Fins only team that pursued Moreno.

I don't want to say they over paid, but it definitely looks like the Fins could have gotten Moreno for a cheaper contract being they were the only ones who reached out to him.

It definitely gives creedence to the notion that every other team in the NFL thought his "career" year was more because of Manning than anything else.

Didn't we do the same thing with Finnegen? I remember many saying that he would have cost a couple of Mil less if we waited a week.
 
Obviously premature to be marking Knowshon Moreno's gravestone in June.

That said I didn't understand signing him. I understand it less now, knowing no other team was bidding and he came injured and with a gut. I also understand it even less after initial reports suggest that Miami will be using their backs less to block and more on routes, like Philadelphia.

As for the cost of signing him, you look at it two ways. The first cost is the money which I think you set at $3.0 million because the chances of him not even making the opening day roster seem pretty low. The second cost is the opportunity cost. The front office was doing a LOT of work on available running backs available in free agency or by trade, as well as in the draft. I know that. I also know that when they grabbed Moreno that work stopped and the position was no longer prioritized. So the question becomes which player might they have been able to acquire if they hadn't signed Moreno. Lache Seastrunk was still available when they took Arthur Lynch in the 5th round. I fully believe that will end up a regret.

There were a number of RB options available in FA, and the draft, Don't know why Moreno was the choice, even if healthy.

As much of a problem the OL was last year, the running game certainly contributed to the pass protection problems as the pass rush could key up since it didn't really have to worry about the running backs. Plus, the RBs sucked at pass pro too.

If Moreno is hobbled by injury this year, it will be a repeat of last year.

I was surprised too, that's why I tracked them. I thought we'd take a late round pick to replace Thomas, at the very least, or maybe even a higher draft pick to compete with Miller. But with a lot of needs, they had to make choices. With Landry available, that was a good pick, especially since we don't have a number two TE. Maybe they figured with the new scheme Miller will have more room to run and we needed an intermediate receiver with good hands, more. But I dunno....I would have still gone RB.

Best case scenario, passing game really picks up and Gibson is back to form, Landry contributes some, Miller finds more room to run, and somebody is able to catch passes in the red zone. Worst case scenario it's a repeat of last year's sackfest, we can't run the ball, and we're terrible in the red zone with passing. I think everyone's predicting 7-10 wins, so I don't think anyone knows what's going to happen. It's show me time. If it works...someone should buy Bill Lazor a steak dinner.
 
A knee scope is minor assuming that's all that's wrong with his health. That said miller will be the starter even if he was healthy miller is better I think

Knowshon will pay off for us. A 3-down back that is peaking. An off-season scope for probably a frayed meniscus. .... not really a big deal. Settle down all you doom and gloomers.
 
Moreno having limited potential suitors says less about him than it does about the lack of value for running backs in general. Few teams look to free agency for running backs, and for those that do there are plentiful options to chose from because there are always numerous former 1,000 yard backs (this year we even had a 2,000 yard back) so the value or demand is not very high for any one of them.

The reality is that teams these days feel like they have just as much chance of production from a midrounder even in year one as they do a veteran RB since they age in dog years. The only reason why teams like us have signed a FA like Moreno is because the state of our roster means we benefit from filling some other needs for the draft and bringing in a stopgap for a year.

And the worst part is that Miami still hasn't replaced him.

Got rid of one of the only playmakers on offense. Tried to replace w. Thomas and Miller. Nope. Now Moreno -- injured. Nope.

From what I heard on the radio last week, the guy who said Brees wasn't going to be able to come back (and Culpepper was) was the one who did the surgery on both of them, renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews.
