Fire Philbin / Poor timeout management

Frank Reich is going up my list of possible HC candidates.

I think this team loses next week…wins close in Jax and beats SD in Miami and will be 4-4 going into Week 10.
Wow...Have you actually watched SD play this season? Anyway...Im off the fence with Failbin...Enough coaching mistakes in 1 season for a career already.

Passes on a chip shot FG early in the game. Stupid call, always take the points when its that early in the game. And it came back to cost them in the end.

4th in 10 coming off of a sack, and Joe Smooth decides to call a time out when it was CLEAR the Packers were confused and trying to get in a play and had no time outs left. Absolutely an idiotic decision by Philbin.

Both those decisions were the deciding factors in the game, and both Philbins fault.

Yeah right. So incredibly easy to blame Philbin for going for it on 4th and 1 at the 1. If he doesn't go for it there half this board calls him a spineless pansy.

Your second point I agree with though.

We save our best for 4th down. Remember the Carolina game last year? They faced 4th and 10 deep in their own territory on their final possession when we led. Cam Newton is playing better this season. Last year he had no touch and was relying exclusively on line drives. Instead of playing tight and forcing Newton to create something on 4th down, we back off and allow a simple dart to Steve Smith for the first down. I think it was Reshad Jones with the soft coverage.

Frankly, even our own 4th down success last season hosting the Patriots was ridiculously fortunate. There is no way you can design a play to Charles Clay behind the line of scrimmage in that situation. It will fail a massive percentage of the time. Only a surreal effort by Clay rescued the play call and eventually we pulled it out.

That and the defense still allowed NE to drive all the way down to the 7 or so before Michael Thomas picked off Brady in the end zone.

I agree with the decision to go for it there. I just think the play call sucked.

Likewise, the timeout call at the very end of the game (the one when the clock was stopped) was not necessarily bad, but the fact that we had Wheeler in man coverage on a good receiving tight end after a timeout is mind-boggling.

3rd and 9 at MIA 47 (1:44) (Shotgun) A.Rodgers sacked at MIA 48 for -1 yards (sack split by O.Vernon and C.Wake). FUMBLES (O.Vernon), recovered by GB-T.Lang at MIA 48. T.Lang to MIA 48 for no gain (C.McCain).
Timeout #2 by MIA at 01:07.
4th and 10 at MIA 48 (1:07) (Shotgun) A.Rodgers pass deep right to J.Nelson ran ob at MIA 30 for 18 yards.

Seeing that that the third down play was run at 1:44 and the timeout stopped the clock before the fourth down play at 1:07 it's clear the clock was running.

So what about passing the ball when the option run was working wonders the previous drive. . Aren't you supposed to run the clock out when you can? All we needed was a first down or two..

Sore losers thread I see. Many opportunities to win the game on several plays despite poor QB play on our end and Russell Wilson-esque QB play on their end and you guys want to whine over 2 seconds of play clock...

He's done the same thing in three other wins, how come nobody whined about it then?

I liked going for it on 4th down in the first quarter. Can't play the result on that one. The way Green Bay waltzed down the field it looked like 30+ points might be necessary.

Hated the play call. The zone read handoff up the middle seldom works in that situation, and likewise the ever-popular roll out right seldom works. Louisville blew the opportunity yesterday at Clemson by choosing that ridiculous roll right on 4th down and goal.

I like aggressive passes over the middle in that situation, including off play action from the read option look.

Philbin's clock management strength is saving time for a possession when the other team has the ball. Otherwise he often screws up. During that last possession today I was worried he'd be itchy to call time out in fear that Green Bay would score with no time for the Dolphins to respond. But I'm convinced that's not how it played out. He simply clutched a stupid idea that he needed to worry solely about his own team with no recognition whatsoever toward how Green Bay was faring and who would benefit most from that time out.

**** philbin! Until he's fired im done with the Dolphins this season. I cant do it for 11 more games.
