First Depth Chart of the Year

I think the thinking behind Bess returning punts is that he's sure handed, steady, and predictable. Better that than I guy who might show flashes back there but is young and may unravel at times, or is too inconsistent, and could possibly be unnerving in critical situations where you just simply need to maintain possession.

Bess has had his share of muffed punts, so he isn't a lock. I would welcome the risk of a kid that provides a homerun threat!

yeesh...egnews the 4th te...behind mastrud...it's even worse than i thought
Miller is currently the 4th running back, should we be concerned with that also? Seriously though it is a little disappointing that Egnew hasn't shown a whole lot in camp so far, but it is still early and some players are slower to catch on in the pros. Look at Soliai, people thought we was a bust and on the verge of being cut going into 2010. Two years later he has been in the Pro Bowl, been the team's franchise player and got a new contract extension. Not saying Egnew is going to be a Pro Bowl tight end, just that I am not overally concerned about his long term future at this point. Hopefully he starts to flash soon.

Obviously the biggest shock of this depth chart to me is that Vontae is running second behind Marshall. From the reports and Philbin's comments it doesn't seem like Vontae is doing horrible or that they are disappointed in him. Just sounds like Marshall is doing a hell of a job, along with Smith. Three starting caliber corners is a good problem to have.

After preseason game 2, then these depth charts will really start to mean something.

miller and egnew being where they are is not the same thing by a long shot...solia was on skates as a rook but that was not the same thing either...egnew should be with his measurables an combine #s and speed ripping the 2nd and 3rd team defense apart...if he was worth his salt...i doubt he stays behind mastrud long just like i doubt miller stays behind slaton long but egnew should be standing out against the scrubs...he's not

i also have heard the same thing ck has about alexih standing out in camp...i think miami could very well keep him and randall and let baker and mcdaniel go...get younger get cheaper get more upside...they could also keep all 3 but mcdaniels cap # stands out for a potential purge

Miller is a lock to make the team based on his draft status...Nanee is going to make the team as well as long as he stays healthy..Pleasant surprise there...Def interested to see the first game on friday and see how everyone measures up..

Gates and Slayton are going to be cut unless they start killing it...The fact that Gates does not have the KR spot has to be dissapointing for him based on the fact that was a big reason why he was drafted..The only way imo that Slayton is kept is if he can surpass Thomas which I dont see happening...This zone blocking scheme is really going to benifit thomas because he has the ability to move the pile and now get to the outside where he can be a force..

Is Hartline going to start the year on PUP? He's not on the depth chart.

Why is Bess the punt returner? He is a good slot receiver, but doesn't have the speed to be a good punt returner. You want fast guys returning punts and kicks.

Egnew has never blocked before so its going to take some time for him. He was really a just a big WR at Mizz. Learning the OL assignmenets and WR route and a new offense isnt easy. Outside of the QB position, TE is probably the hardest position to learn on offense imo. I didnt expect Egnew to be ready this soon.

Who's "Slayton"? :ponder:

the not blocking stuff is an excuse with egnew...he never blocked a paper bag in college he's not gonna block anyone in the pros...if miami drafted him with the idea of having him line up in line and block they made a mistake...its not gonna happen...that kid needs to be flexed out and let him run routes against lbs etc not trying to keep his qbs uni clean...

it's all excuses for this kid with his poor showing...golden opportunity coming up goose eggs

Per Omar Kelly.

For Clarity Vontae hasn't worked with the 2nd team. Was starting boundary today. WAS LEARNING nickel last week.

why is Vonte in the doghouse ?

Not in the doghouse. Just picked up a corner in Richard marshall who is being paid more, has more experience and has alot more Interceptions than Davis.
