First Half Impressions

Are we passing more than running?? sorry guys, i came out of work late and only managed to catch from the middle of the second qrtr....

also who scored for the Bears??? if it was a pass, who was torched???

First Half

Just as i thought....GUS is the starter..
A.J. still looks lost........boston looks cut
howard was toast
ricky need touches
wheres the pass rush ??

GO GUS!

I think Gus has an advantage because his "get rid of the ball" clock is better. O-line didn't look good. Crowder is bigger than I expected, the D-line didn't look very good and neither did the secondary. I think with it being a new system, it's going to take some time for everybody to figure out what their doing. I think the O-line looks better than last year and chicago has a very talented d-line.

Rythm

That's the difference between Feeley and Frerotte IMO. Just like last year the offense had no rythm with Feeley. When Frerotte was playing it seemed like he kept the ball moving.

if you watch Gus' TD pass to Gilmore, you'd have noticed that the FS was shadowing his route. If Gus throws that ball where it's suppose to be, it woulda been an int. Instead he threw it behind him just enough to get by the reach of the safety's left arm, but just in the right area for gilmore to make a play. That was just a case of putting the ball where your reciever has a chance to make a play and if he doesn't, then at least the DB can't get it.

You guys are gonna get burnt deep this year. A couple times you've been beat deep but Grossman failed to get the ball there.

1. Frerotte looks pretty good. He was a little shakey early on, but once he learned where the blitzes were coming from, he started making some good throws to beat them. He also gets the ball out of his hand quickly.

2. The OL has not been disappointing from my vantage point. They are putting a hat on a man, and I haven't seen anyone on the first unit line get beaten by his man save for the one play that Vernon Carey let Alex Brown get the outside lane on him. Vernon recovered and made the block with Feeley stepping up though. Too bad Feeley held onto the ball too long on the play.

3. Sammy Morris is the only runner I've seen in the game that seems to be willing to pick up a blitz. That's the most disappointing thing I've seen offensively. The backs have not done a good job of picking up the blitz. They also haven't done a good job of becoming outlet options against the blitz. There's no doubt in my mind that once Ronnie Brown gets his feet under him in the NFL, he's going to be the Dolphins back. He will be that receiving option as well as a much better blocker than any of the other backs on the team.

4. Offensively, I'd like to see Scott Linehan use the fullback more as a lead blocker to try and offset these 8 man fronts. I think Lorenzo Diamond has looked pretty good as an H-Back though.

5. Reggie Howard was getting beat deep down the field big time, even though that was not a completion to Mushin Muhammed. He only got one foot in bounds. He's been beat two to three more times down the field that the Bears have just missed.

6. Our corners need to be a force against the run in Nick's defense. The one big run we gave up was because Sam Madison let himself get into a poor position to make the play. Thomas Jones just cut inside on him and ran for 12 yards. Outside of that, the Dolphins have done a nice job against the run.

By most accounts he was was trailing before this game. Also Frerotte has a pocket presence that Feeley doesn't seem to have.
I agree...Gus looks alot more comfortable..I hope Feely gets it together

Good points and I agree with Muck above about CB. WTH is up with the free release we are giving that is allowing easy slants???? Not even contested!

And I can't disagree more wiht a majority of what I am reading here as far as teh QBs being "even". I hate to sound like a jerk, but in my eyes...these people's eyes are closed or have rose-colored glasses on. Throw the numbers out the window and focus directly on demeanor, coolness in the pocket, knowing where receivers are, and releasing a smooth ball....and Frerotte is head and shoulders above Feeley. I saw absolutely no difference in Feeley what-so-ever from last season. In fact, I thought I was watching a replay, especially on that screen where he just got all nervous and chucked it at people.

It's a little early to nitpick, but the DL hasn't really had much success at rushing the QB. I don't think we can judge the secondary right now considering we really only have 1 returning starter (Madison). If they aren't playing well say after Preseason Week 4, then maybe we should take caution

-Boston looked good, didn't show signs of limping to me
- Frerotte has looked damn good, good zip on passes, the TD throw he was under pressure
-Great catch by Gilmore
-Welker did fairly well with returns
-Running game stunk, but I say it takes some game-action for the O-Line and RBs to gel together

Agreed. We should have been torched maybe 3 more times, but the ball was overthrown. That said, I think in the regular season we'll be doing more things to help our corners.

Feeley has happy feet in the pocket. Comes from a year of being pounded.

OL looks a lot like the OL from last year. Very disappointing.

Ricky looks rusty, but no holes anyway.

Secondary looked very weak. Lucky the Bears dropped a few.

Really a poor performance to start. Hope it gets better.

I posted this in the game thread, but I think it's just falling on deaf ears in there with all the bickering going on. I think it will be read by more in this thread.

Some of you guys need to remember that this is not only a preseason game, but the first preseason game for us. I'm very pleased with the way we've played in the first half. I think both QB's played well. Unfortunately, Feeley's time was cut short. I do believe Frerotte has played better. He should thank Boston and Gilmore. I'm really impressed with Boston so far. If we continue to bring him along slowly, he should give us a great #3 threat this season.

Our offensive line doesn't look good but it still looks better than last season. Our coaches need to have game tape to see what our players need to improve on. Just because we've looked good in training camp, doesn't mean we're going to look good in a real game. As the preseason goes on, I guarantee that we will all see improvement in the team.

I'm somewhat disappointed in our defense. I would have liked to have seen more pressure on the QB. We all know our secondary isn't the top of the league anymore. We need to get more pressure on the QB to help our secondary out. But again, I remind myself that this is just the first preseason game and I'm positive we'll improve. I also remind myself that there was hardly any gameplanning done, if there was any at all.

The biggest disappointment (like it's any surprise) to me was Donald Lee. He flat out sucks. I normally don't bash a guy like this but Lee has really stunk up the joint. I don't see him making the team. I was also disappointed in Derrius Thompson's first drop. I don't think he's had the ball thrown to him since then.

Am i the only one who noticed the perfect pass AJ threw to Derrius which he dropped and to say AJ looks lost shows your a Gus lover now yes Gus looks good to say he threw that pass behind Gilmore on purpose is stupid he was on the run and threw it there on purpose come on!
