First OC Interview is Today

Washington had one nice year running an offense that didn't have much future. When they couldn't run the same stuff this year the entire O went in the toilet and he had no counter move. Shanahan also has a history of getting into it with his quarterbacks:

There has to be better options than a ******** son of a famous coach who really hasn't had that much of his own professional success.

I get that, but to be fair on the RG3 friction thing, RG3 is the dysfunctional guy in that organization. He's come out and actually bragged about having influence over the owner, and has repeatedly thrown his receivers under the bus both to the media and apparently in private.

I just don't think he'd be a bad option considering what our options actually are. Let's face it, as much as I'd love to see Gary Kubiak brought in here, we ain't bringing Gary Kubiak in here.

Philbin should be gone too..He has no business hire a OC because he is incapable of doing this.....See Sherman.

There's no reason that a GM should not be a part of this search...This is why Miami is always in the middle of the pack.

It is really hard to pin dysfunction in DC on Kyle Shanahan since the situation sounded like the epitome of dysfunciton: diva Qb, meddling owner, too much attention...

I blame RGIII not Kyle for the mess in Washington.

Eagles QB coach Bill Lazor is in Miami today interviewing for the Dolphins OC job, per a league source.

I remember him from Las Vegas many years ago. He was a nutcase street scammer who claimed he worked at Area 51 and saw UFOs. George Knapp of Las Vegas Channel 8 used to feature him all the time.

At least he has a new hobby.

Hate to burst your bubble that isn't happening.

i'm not interested in kyle shanahan either...but i bet if he comes here there will be a step back pass in the playbook off the zone read...and hard contact on the qb as a ball carrier

The story I posted a link to shows the disputes with Griffin were nothing new. He also feuded with McNabb. At least when Brian Schottenheimer was doing a bad job he also wasn't openly fighting with his quarterback.

Gary Kubiak isn't coming here, and to be honest after reading more about it I'm not upset about that. We're going to have a lot of trouble getting a top level OC in here. With a new GM in town and Philbin on a short leash we're probably looking at a Brian Daboll type hire. For Rex Ryan to get Marty Mornhinweg last year was actually kind of a coup given the situation he was in.

Well Kubiak interviewed for Detroits head coaching job, and sounds like if he isn't a head coach next year he isn't a coach.

It seems like they are going after up and comers. I am fine with that. We went the "established" route and the results got stale.
Either way next year seems like Philbin will be more hands on the offense.

If they make an OC hire before they hire a GM, it might be a hint as to who's on top of the power pyramid ...and it ain't the GM.

it is in Philbin's contract that he has final say on coaching staff. A new GM would have no impact on who gets hired as OC especially after Ross and Garfinkle gave Joe a vote of confidence today.

Also worth noting for the OC job. 1)Miami is looking at guys mostly with a background in QBs and 2)While the future of Philbin will make some candidates hesitate, Philbin has stated he will let the OC call his own plays so for a lot of first time coordinators it's a good gig

Looking at Lazor's full body of work, it seems pretty impressive. From what I understand, at UVa he turned that offense around by adapting the system to fit his personnel. You also look at the places where he's been the QB coach and he's had guys I didn't otherwise think much of perform pretty well. Seneca Wallace looked like a pretty good QB in 8 starts when Lazor was his coach and the bridge there between Wallace and Foles is that they both had unusually low interception totals.

He's definitely worth a close look.

I'm pissed that we haven't picked a GM first. The senior bowl is in 2 weeks. Players don't report for a few ****ing months. Let's get some priorities here folks.

And I'm pissed that it looks like Philbin is staying.

I look at Ross and Philbin and think of our team being run by a clown and a dork.

Are we incapable of doing both of these things concurrently
