I meant he has the ability to be a starter..... and just so I dont have my words turned on me.... RONNIE STARTER... RICKY BACKUP.... there haha

well im not going to name UFA (Boston, mcdougle, minor etc), but the people still under contract i expect to be gone.

No offense man but you dont know what youre talking about.... Rickys getting paid as much as a backup... and hes a starter... that in itself is a luxury... why jus throw that away?

No offense taken. But my thoughts on Ricky do not have anything to do with salary. My view is formed on the basis that since the Dolphins have so many other needs I would not be surprised if Ricky was used for a draft pick(s) or to get a player to fill one of those needs. I would love to see him stay a Dolphin. I'm just not certain its a given.

And anyway, what fun is this thread be if it didn't create a little controversy? :)

Ricky could be traded if the price is right, but i would like to keep him. What if Ronnie gets injuried? We have no one else who can carry the load, and we wouldnt get much out of him.

haha understood... youre talking more fantasy value than $........ Id say hold on to Ricky for atleast another year... maybe 2.... Take advantage of getting him for cheap... if Ronnie were to go down and we traded Ricky away the week before, we'd be kicking ourselves...

For some reason every time I'm reminded of Eddie Moore I also think of Jamar Fletcher. God help me.

I think that great trade offer will be on or before draft day for us to move up and get the player (at any position) that we want in the first round. Saban is obviously (to me) featuring Ricky so much in the games to build his trade value hoping he performs well, and he has. He is very interesting bait for the draft, IMO. Also, I can see something written up in the trade mentioning if Ricky accepts the trade the $8.6 million he owes us will be waved.

Good point. However, then the question (s) begs to be asked? Can Ricky continue to pass drug screens for that long, and/or will he once again decide to go live in a tent? Personally, I hope he continues to do well with his private life and he stays in football. He is exciting to watch.

Eddie Moore -- It is long past time to get rid of him. It's worth the $300k or so cap hit to save his base salary.

Wade Smith -- He's another non-Saban guy. Getting rid of he and Moore will surely make most Dolphins fans jump for joy. What wastes they were.

David Boston -- I don't know if he'll be out of the league or not, but I cannot imagine bringing him back.

Travis Minor -- I think only one of Minor and Morris will be back, and it's really a no brainer which one that should be if you ask me.

Keith Traylor -- I think this is it for him. I thank him for his year and would welcome him back. I just don't see it happening, though.

I don't know that Howard is gone because it looks like the cap hit might be big. We'll have to see just how bad Saban thinks he has been.

Those are all good choices, although I expect Traylor to be back based on how disruptive he's been this year which is tough to find at DT. Zgonina will be gone. I'm convinced he wouldn't have survived the final cut this year if Vickerson hadn't hurt his knee in the preseason finale. IMO, it doesn't make sense to keep an old DT who gets smothered against the run.

Reggie Howard is probably out based on merit and the likelihood we pursue several new DBs. Likewise McDougal who is limited, both in flexibility and ability to play only one position, plus he didn't produce.

Since Saban labeled the WRs "decent" you've got to believe he meant it and there will be changes. Saban writes motivational books and gives motivational speeches, which doesn't jive with settling for decent. He might reconsider after Chambers' resurgence, but the best coaches have long memories. Gilmore faired worse than I expected once given an opportunity. He excels on special teams but that's flimsy if we can find another special team ace and also a promising young WR. Maybe we already have him in Fred Gibson.

On edit: forgot about Seau. Gone.

Just as an aside, how long do you really think Ricky is going to continue to play for the vet min? He is going to want to re-work that contract this offseason and if you don't believe that I've got some ocean front I'll sell ya.

You can talk about the judgement and the language in his contract all you want, but the only reason he played for it this year was a show of good faith.

If you can get a 4th for him, you have to think about it. Morris is a solid backup RB and ST player. I love Ricky, but getting something for him while you can may not be a bad idea.

If the contract can be worked fairly cheaply, I'd want have him back though.

Eddie Moore = Anquin Boldin

Jamar Fletcher = Drew Brees

And who knows what Wade Smith cost us.

Ricky shouldn't be getting as many carries as he does??

He led the league in rushing not too long ago and is one of the best backs in the NFL. We are in a perfect position as far as running back is concerned. All of this "trade Ricky" talk is crazy in my opinion. It's a common trend right now to try to have two quality runningbacks on your team, which we have. KC is a prime example of why you need two backs on your team. It's probably second to QB as far as having depth. I really can't name another team that has a better runningback situation than we do, quality and salary cap wise.

Yeah, and I want a million dollars and a supermodel girlfriend but we don't all get what we want. Ricky has been there and done that. He's back not only because he needs the 300K he's earning every year, but because he hopes to avoid the 8 Million dollar lawsuit he's sure to get smacked with had he not come back and/or decides to leave again. He doesn't have a choice but to play for the Vet minimum and he has absolutley no leverage in the situation. I'll pass on the Waterfront by the way.

Good faith? You speak of the Language of his contract like it holds no merit in this discussion. The truth is that he didn't have a choice in the matter. If you believe he's here because of his love for the game, and he's playing for the Vet minimum out of good faith, then I too have Waterfront for sale.
