Five who may not be around next year

By the way, considering the cirmcumstances he left under, his character and decision making, past drug use, and current play on the field he deserves no more than the Vet minimum and I would be suprised if a team offered anything at all.

Ricky shouldn't be getting as many carries as he does??

He led the league in rushing not too long ago and is one of the best backs in the NFL. We are in a perfect position as far as running back is concerned. All of this "trade Ricky" talk is crazy in my opinion. It's a common trend right now to try to have two quality runningbacks on your team, which we have. KC is a prime example of why you need two backs on your team. It's probably second to QB as far as having depth. I really can't name another team that has a better runningback situation than we do, quality and salary cap wise.

He has also lost about 25 pounds and lost his running power

he isnt a shifty guy at all

he got faster yes, but its not enough to put him on the same level he used to be

Olindo is definately staying after that Fumble recovery:D
No in all seriousness Mare should not even be on this list he is a great kicker that can be relied upon. He stays for years to come.

I know its kind of early to be wondering about next year, but if you had to make a guess of 5 "known" players on the current roster who will not be around next year which players would you select and why? This is not to say you don't want these players, just musing on who might be gone. In no particular order my selections are:

1. Reggie Howard. He hasn't had the impact I had hopped he would. Being a hold-over from Wannstedt/Spielman doesn't help.

2. Stockar McDougal. Again, better things were hoped for. There are bound to be changes in the O-line and a vet or two are bound to be let go.

3. Olindo Mare. I like Olindo, but he seems to have fallen off. Life span of past successful Dolphin place kickers? Garo, 9 years, von Shamann, 6 years, Reveiz, 4 years, and Stoyanovich, 7 years. Olindo? 9 years. The hour glass may be about empty.

4. Ricky Williams. I do not feel the Dolphins can afford (personnel wise) to keep him. He has shown he can still play and as long as he continues to pass drug screens he will have trade value as there are always teams looking for a quality running back. If the price is right, Come on down!!!

5. Sage Rosenfels. The purge of the Wannstedt era continues. I have nothing against Sage but I suspect he may get caught in a numbers game. I see no way all 3 qbs currently on the roster will be here next season, and I believe Ferrotte will be around either to mentor a young qb or to be a verteran back-up. Thats my pick, take yours.

Honorable mention goes to Madison (age/cost), Lemon or Ferrotte (see above, a qb will be gone), Traylor (age/health), McIntosh (need a stud L OT).

I have to disagree with Olindo and Ricky, but the rest is very likely. Probably could add a few more to that list, Boston (unfortunately, liked how he came here and gave it his best effort, just hasn't been able to stay healthy), Seau, Minor, to name some more.

I think we'll definately get younger on defense, with some more help in the secondary and linebackers via the draft. I could see us adding another D Lineman through free agency. Offensively, it's obvious we'll try to upgrade at QB. Not sure how they feel about the OLine, they've been playing really well as of late (Houck, I'm sure, has a lot to do with that) We'll probably look at upgrading center and left tackle. I'd love to see us go after not only one, but a couple of real speedy recievers: Wayne and maybe another through the draft.

The good news is that we're really not too far off. The teams responding to the system and it looks like we could be back in contention next year. With a strong finish to this season, it'll definitely give us momentum into the offseason.

They're more likely to get rid of Booker and his high cap number.

I agreed with all but 2 points you just made

1- Gus probally will be the starter next year or at least competing for the job

2- Reggie Wayne isnt a speedy WR

Why do that when he could probably be extended very easily at a lower number? We know he values loyalty, after all.

1)Eddie Moore- Whether he's injured or just sitting on the sideline, he has been a waste of time and money.
2)Reggie Howard- For the most part has been horrible this season. Collecting way too much money which he already declined to restructure so he's gone.
3)Stockar McDougal- This guy was supposed to come in here and be a dominant force. What we ended up with was a guy inable to break the starting line up and penalty prone.
4)Travis Minor- A good RB but the worst of the current bunch. I think Sammy Morris is more capable and if the coaches keep their word, R&R will be around for a while.
5)Gus Frerotte- Yeah he played well on Sunday but he is too inconsistant. I'm hoping we pick up a better veteran like Kitna.

He's actually only down about 10 pounds from the year he led the league and is at his weight that he was in college. I was at the game on Sunday and he looked pretty good to me (except the fumble :shakeno: ) The guy is still very strong and hard to tackle. Plus I think with this year almost behind him, he'll be primed and back to form for next season. I'd just hate to give up on him right now with how cheap he is towards the cap.

I know you basically said "if the price is right" but I'm not really sure what that price is?? We trade him and Ronnie goes down, we're in trouble..big time...at least until we get a QB that can carry a team with his arm.

Ok I respect your opinion far more after that post

But to me the price is

A higher spot in the draft

or

A decent QB

I agree we do need a backup RB, but I just hope ronnie doesnt get injured anyway, also his low salary makes him great trade bait since teams wont be paying him a lot even if he is a risk for them

Eddie Moore -- It is long past time to get rid of him. It's worth the $300k or so cap hit to save his base salary.

Wade Smith -- He's another non-Saban guy. Getting rid of he and Moore will surely make most Dolphins fans jump for joy. What wastes they were.

David Boston -- I don't know if he'll be out of the league or not, but I cannot imagine bringing him back.

Travis Minor -- I think only one of Minor and Morris will be back, and it's really a no brainer which one that should be if you ask me.

Keith Traylor -- I think this is it for him. I thank him for his year and would welcome him back. I just don't see it happening, though.

Those are pretty good. I agree with these two for sure.

Wade Smith - This guy has been a HUGE failure for Miami.

David Boston - He never developed. He had a chance under Wanny, and another chance under Saban. It looks like he will have to try and catch on somewhere else.

My other three:

Junior Seau - Great, Hall of Fame player. But his time with Miami as a player must end. I would like to see him stay and coach with the defense. But that will not happen. He will probably try and squeeze a couple more years out somewhere. Maybe with a team that has a chance at the Super Bowl?

Stockar McDoogle - This hasn't worked out real well. He is an average player. Miami can find someone in free agency to replace him.

Cleo Lemon - Frerotte will definitely stay, and probably start at the beginning of next season. Sage has some way of staying around in Miami. He has been there for years, and serves some unknown purpose. Miami will look to bring in a developmental, young player at QB this offseason. Lemon will probably compete with that QB in mini-camp and the preseason. But if the developmental QB is from the draft, Lemon will most certainly go after preseason.

Edit: Forget about Miami giving up Olindo. He is the man. He misses a few kicks a year, but the guy has been in Miami forever. He still kicks field goals well enough, and he has a HUGE leg on kickoffs.

Also, forget about Miami giving up Ricky. Ricky has been through alot with Miami. Miami gives him the freedom and space he needs personally. He will not get that tolerance from a different team. He will stay, and Miami will welcome him back. You can look forward to the Ricky/Ronnie combo to develop even more next season.

i think Reggie Howard is gone for sure, for all the reasons mentioned in previous posts. i think Eddie Moore is gone as well. i think Stockar might stick around for one more year, he's not that old and he might still be able to make some impact. i think Seth McKinney is gone though. i think that between Rex Hadnot, Wade Smith and FA McKinney just wont have a place here. i'm pretty sure Gilmore will be gone, he just hasnt shown anything other than being a capable special teams player, and to be honest, everyone on our special teams has been excellent so losing Gilmore wont be that much of a blow, not to mention i think we're going to draft a WR in the 3rd or 4th round. finally, i think Tebucky Jones is gone, i think that Schulters, Bell and Tillman have done a fine job holding down the safety spot, so i think Tebucky is gone.

Yeah, and I want a million dollars and a supermodel girlfriend but we don't all get what we want. Ricky has been there and done that. He's back not only because he needs the 300K he's earning every year, but because he hopes to avoid the 8 Million dollar lawsuit he's sure to get smacked with had he not come back and/or decides to leave again. He doesn't have a choice but to play for the Vet minimum and he has absolutley no leverage in the situation. I'll pass on the Waterfront by the way.

Good faith? You speak of the Language of his contract like it holds no merit in this discussion. The truth is that he didn't have a choice in the matter. If you believe he's here because of his love for the game, and he's playing for the Vet minimum out of good faith, then I too have Waterfront for sale.

Bingo

If I( had to make a top 5 list of players most likely gone, they would og as follows:

1. Eddie Moore. Injuries have doomed him here. Send him on his way and hope he can latch on elsewhere.

2. Junior Seau. Junior is the man but from all accounts, I think we will be parting ways with him. He seems resigned to it as does Miami. No hard feelings, thanks for the memories.

3. Reggie Howard. With the emergence of Travis Daniels and the return of Will Poole, Reggie is as good as gone. I don't think we will want to pay that steep of a price tag for, at best, a dime back. Goodbye and good riddance.

4. David Boston. The experiment is over. Two season pretty much zero production. Thankfully he was cheap. He is done in Miami.

5. Sage Rosenfels. I like the guy, but he will never be more than a backup for us. For that matter he will probably be nothing greater than a backup for most teams. However, if he goes elsewhere, he can at least get some decent money. Good luck to Sage as well.

Honorable mention:

6. Stockar McDougle. One year contract, more than likely will look for the payday and starting gig elsewhere.

7. Wade Smith. Moving him to center was the last shot for ihm. Once he got injured, I think he pretty much sealed his own fate.

8. Keith Traylor. If he is willing to come back at the veteran minimum, I woulnd't mind it. However, age and injuries have slowed him down and he may just end up retiring.

9. Jeff Zgonina. Again, age is a factor. Remember we almost traded him last offseason and I could see him leaving after this year. I wouldn't mind having him back as a pass rush specialist though.

10. Travis Minor. Good on special teams, but really isn't doing much of anything else. He is fourth on the rb chart behind Brown, Morris, and Williams and may bolt for a shot elsewhere.

As you can see, I have us possibly losing a lot of player on defense. For the most part, they are older players who can or have been replaced with younger players. Players like Manuel Wright, Will Poole, Travis Daniels, Channing Crowder, Derrick Pope, and Kevin Vickerson should help ease the transition from our older veteran guys into a newer, younger defense next year and beyond.

Honestly, offensively, I don't think drastic changes need to be made. Perhaps a change or two to the O-line and obviously, a long term QB qould be nice. However, our running back situation is stellar as is our TE and in my opinion, our wideouts ( Chambers, Booker, Welker, and Gilmore ).

I am really excited to see what Saban can do in his second offseason and with more draft picks.
