Five who may not be around next year

I think MacIntosh is gone, especially after reading this

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/football/13403135.htm

Mooreis gone as well as Seau, Rosenfels, and Howard.
UFAs who won't be back are McDougale, McKinney, and Traylor.
Can't say I wil miss them, Seau and Traylor are great presences on the team but at their age and health problems, I would almost rather have them as coaches on the team. The rest, don't let the door hit you in the *** on the way out.
Always have to cut the dead wood to move on, which we will do.

I know its kind of early to be wondering about next year, but if you had to make a guess of 5 "known" players on the current roster who will not be around next year which players would you select and why? This is not to say you don't want these players, just musing on who might be gone. In no particular order my selections are:

1. Reggie Howard. He hasn't had the impact I had hopped he would. Being a hold-over from Wannstedt/Spielman doesn't help.

2. Stockar McDougal. Again, better things were hoped for. There are bound to be changes in the O-line and a vet or two are bound to be let go.

3. Olindo Mare. I like Olindo, but he seems to have fallen off. Life span of past successful Dolphin place kickers? Garo, 9 years, von Shamann, 6 years, Reveiz, 4 years, and Stoyanovich, 7 years. Olindo? 9 years. The hour glass may be about empty.

4. Ricky Williams. I do not feel the Dolphins can afford (personnel wise) to keep him. He has shown he can still play and as long as he continues to pass drug screens he will have trade value as there are always teams looking for a quality running back. If the price is right, Come on down!!!

5. Sage Rosenfels. The purge of the Wannstedt era continues. I have nothing against Sage but I suspect he may get caught in a numbers game. I see no way all 3 qbs currently on the roster will be here next season, and I believe Ferrotte will be around either to mentor a young qb or to be a verteran back-up. Thats my pick, take yours.

Honorable mention goes to Madison (age/cost), Lemon or Ferrotte (see above, a qb will be gone), Traylor (age/health), McIntosh (need a stud L OT).

Ricky is costing us 540K next year. That's all. Who do you recommend to replace him with? Get rid of him and you need another replacement RB. You'll find no one else in the NFL you can possibly bring in to replace him with, considering cost and talent. Dumb move to move him next yer, simple as that.

The Dolphins have so many other needs (OL, DB, QB) I see having two premier running backs as a luxury the Dolphins can't afford. If moving Ricky can help the Dolphins fill one of these needs I think it would be a good move.

If the needs were not so many I would feel differently.

The only way we couldn't afford it would be if we were offered an early 2nd rnd pick or better for him, which IMO, isn't likely. Not this year anyway. If he pizzes clean next year and still produces well, then maybe, but not this year.

I disagree with your Ricky assessment...Can't afford him personnel wise? They seem to be doing fine with him now. I think he stays because he is a great insurance policy should Ronnie get hurt and comes at a bargain rate!

I'd replace Ricky, on your list, with Sam Madison....unless he renegotiates his contract to a much more cap friendly number.

seau

seth mckinney

eddie moore

sam madison unless he takes a big pay cut

reggie howard

ricky and traylor stay

Gone:
Boston (Injuries)
Moore (Injuries)
Howard ($ and average skills)
Seau (Injuries)
Tebucky Jones (Injuries)
Rosenfels (they will keep Frerotte and draft an new QB and keep Lemon)

Might be gone:
Madison (if he doesn't take a pay cut)
McKinney (they will try to sign him kind of cheap)
Zognina (would hate to see him go, but he is said to go every year, so I am just following tradition)

No way they will leave:
Ricky (way too cheap)
Mare (does not matter if he's overpaid, too much of a risk to lose your kicker. Look at the touble the Giants have gone through since a couple of years)

Eddie Moore -- It is long past time to get rid of him. It's worth the $300k or so cap hit to save his base salary.

Wade Smith -- He's another non-Saban guy. Getting rid of he and Moore will surely make most Dolphins fans jump for joy. What wastes they were.

David Boston -- I don't know if he'll be out of the league or not, but I cannot imagine bringing him back.

Travis Minor -- I think only one of Minor and Morris will be back, and it's really a no brainer which one that should be if you ask me.

Keith Traylor -- I think this is it for him. I thank him for his year and would welcome him back. I just don't see it happening, though.

I don't know that Howard is gone because it looks like the cap hit might be big. We'll have to see just how bad Saban thinks he has been.
i think u r absolutely correct, vickerson will take traylor spot on roster,if anything minor will sign a 1yr tender again, boston might be back but just to compete with no guarentees, howard and moore r sure goners{thank god},seau will stay 1more yr at reduced salary.

boston seua mcdougle reggie h?????????
olindo ricky no doubt keepers

1. Travis Minor-special teams only carries you so far
2. Sage Rosenfels- Gus is the teacher/mentor for the New Guy, Sage has no future here
3. Reggie Howard-fan favorite to go away, but only if we have a better option-I have to believe we will
4. Junior Seau-an honor to have had hin in a Phins uniform on his way to the HOF
5. Wade Smith- thus ending yet another Spielstadt experiment in mediocrity

Woops-forgot Eddie Moore- Make that #6!

Reggie Howard
Eddie Moore
Junior Seau
Travis Minor
Sage Rosenfels
Damion McIntosh
Stockar McDougle
Seth McKinney
Wade Smith
David Boston
Keith Traylor
Eddie Jackson

LEAVE PLEASE

RW will play for roughly league minimum, why the HELL would we let that go!

Thanks to all who posted their thoughts. Very strong sentiment that the Dolphins will keep Ricky. What I found interesting about that is a year ago very few fans were willing to publically state Ricky should even be given a chance. Nice to see he has been forgiven and that Saban has given Ricky a chance to demonstrate he is still a force.

That presents a no lose situation for the Dolphins (unless he fails a drug screen). Either he will be with the Dolphins next year, or the Dolphins will get something of value for the departure of his services.

I am surprised, however, that there was not more noise from those who have been expressing a desire to see more of Sage. Oh, well.

Again, thanks Dolphin fans for the interesting and insightful comments. :peace:

Ricky is going to want his debt wiped out, plus 2-3 million. That's why!
