Five years problem fix with one pick !

You dont KNOW he "fixed the problem". All you know is what youve read here, in the news, and on NFL network. Kid hasnt ever blocked the likes of NFL pass rushers. What do you think will happen to him in practice staring at Cam Wake?

Nuff said.

For over five years now Miami has had a big gaping hole at the right tackle spot. The team has been looking for Carey's replacement since the 2010 season. He played at the gaurd spot in 2011 so Marc Colombo could play right tackle. Am sure we all remember how well that worked out. Hickey comes in and do the most unpopular thing by fixing the problem but you people are not happy. He finished what he started and now we can all move on to more better and exciting thing. Its funny, a coworker asked me just after the Lions pick who I thought Miami would draft, I replied "a tackle because they need it." He agreed and when the pick was in, I was happy with it.

Left tackle fixed.

Did anyone notice what other teams after us took? They were "reaches" too. i mean, the patriots took a 290 lb DT to take Wolfork's future spot. lol. yeah dont think for a minute people were not considering James as the fith best T in this draft.

Sorry, sloppy technique guys who can't run block or even down field block and have poor work ethic and no power can be had in round 3. This pick is on par with picks like Phillip Merling and Jason Allen. Sure, they had the measureables, they just were not good picks.

48 consecutive starts at RT . . . Must have terrible work ethic.

And as its long been established as fact, the 5th best tackle in the draft is absolutely worthy of the 19th overall pick.

And for 5 years it was, even when he was injured, by the end of the season as a whole, Miami gave up few sacks on that side, and Miami ran very well.

lindys wasnt the only draft mag to rate him high and point out he more nflo ready skills than most of the lineman taken before him.

his feet are already good, he can mirror and his kick slide is together. what more can you ask?

he needs to get in the nfl weight room right away. other than that, no big, glaring weakness.

it alwys amazes me though how magazines and web sites and draft gurus ratings go by how the fan thinks of the player. :chuckle:

Has he played a down of football yet? How is it fixed?

Well he was physically superior to every other Volunteers OL except the guy who played LT ahead of him. Neither is a hard worker, but both are physical specimens. The Volt have phenomenal skill players almost every year, but IMHO, their OL consistently underperformed.

A lot of people don't understand that what if we had traded back n someone jumped us to draft James?

Hickey is playing it safe ensuring that we get the player targeted. I'm fine with that. Others want us to get the player and an additional another pick by moving down. It's a risky move when you have gaping holes like MIA. We have to plug the holes. Teams like SF have the luxury of taking these types of risk because they are built already. For Hickey, the 'what ifs' involved in moving down in that first round out weigh the benefits of the gamble. I think he is doing the right thing albeit a conservative approach.

Well I agree about the magazines. But, at the end of the season, based on his performance on the field, he was being considered a 3rd or 4th round prospect. After all the measureables were analyzed he moved up into first round talk. I'm always leery of guys who do not dominate in college. Either they need more teaching, or they have a motivation problem. With him I think it is the latter.

If you want rankings though, the ESPN'S rankings rated him by far the worst pick in the entire first round. So, I think it is fair to say that reviews are mixed on him. Personally, I fear he may be more like Nick Fairley--all world athleticism but not enough work ethic to become a good football player--than he is to become the next Cam Wake. While both examples are defensive players. I think they illustrate the two ends of the spectrum for an athletic player like JuWan.
