Flores not sure Xavien Howard will be at camp.

The ONLY leverage that Howard has is the hope that the Dolphins are so convinced that they are one step away from the Super Bowl that they absolutely have to have X to get the trophy... in any other calculation, they can let him sit.

If he blows off the first week of camp in a tantrum move, they can sit down with him when he does come in, and spell out just how close he is to being placed on the suspended list for conduct detrimental to the team...

As long as the Dolphins understand that they have the hammer (his pay), they don't have to budge much... At this point, X can get more with honey than with vinegar, but the team needs to explain this... slowly and concisely... to his agent.

No. He doesn't. He can not play.

Uh-huh and, per his contract, what would happen if he chooses to not play?

He would have to honor his contract. He can't just choose to not play and collect a paycheck.

Honoring the contract is not simply playing or not playing. The fines he would pay, or money forfeit would be part of honoring the contract.

It really is simple. Don't try to over think it

No one said he collects a pay check if he doesn't want to work anymore for his current rate.

People keep saying he HAS to honor his contract. He doesn't neither do the Dolphins, and there are penalties both ways if either side chooses not to.

I don't understand why this is so hard to understand.

Yes he does. It's not about not collecting a paycheck. Nor does honoring the contract mean he has to play

Fines are part of the contract. If he has to pay a fine or pay back any part of his money that means he will be honoring his contract.

I seriously don't understand why we are making it harder than it needs to be.

He can choose to not play or show up. As of now, he will be fined. He already has been, those fines are honoring the contract.

The only way he can get out of fines is retirement.

If he ever plays again after retirement, his current contract would need to be honored. Unless he comes out of retirement after 2025 because the Dolphins would own his rights.

Whether he plays or not, the contract will be honored.

There is ZERO way he could choose not to play, right now, where he would not have consequences. Unless, of course, he retires. Again, his contract would be valid if he ever unretires until 2025.

Miami would have to honor the contract if they cut him. Any guaranteed money or salary cap ramifications would be their responsibility. However, they structured his contract brilliantly to not be on the hook.

One way or the other, the contract gets honored

Many of us live this example every day. It doesn't make us happy but we deal with it and continue to do our jobs the best we can in hopes of our companies realizing our value down the line and either promoting us or doing a salary adjustment if we continue to exceed in our role.

That's what some on here are asking from X. He plays lights out and injury-free again and i have no doubts the team would redo something in his contract and move some money to guarantees. But he's had 2 seasons of injuries before his career year in 2020, as well as the domestic thing, so even if you don't agree with the current stance of some fans, you should be able to see where they are coming from.
Except, X has leverage that the rest of us don’t. If we did, most of us would too whether we’d admit it or not.

Do the Dolphins get to demand a renegotiating at that point? Is that how it works now?

Sign a 5 year contract. But really it means nothing. If you suck, the team will demand a new contract
.
Career year? Ask for a raise.

Show me you can stay healthy another season, then, when the cap space goes back up you can get paid.

Very short sided. He could wait a year and get paid. But of course not, why would he
Ask Kyle Van Noy.

Ask Kyle Van Noy.
I imagine the $30 million in guaranteed money softened the blow.

I just want to help stretch this nonsense to 43 pages ....

I know it's the off season but this guy isn't a Dolphin until he suits up ... even then his locker room impact is on thin ice IMO ... we don't need players with injury history looking for a last contract (probably) distracting our young team. No problem with a guy asking for a raise but do you think he can at least sustain last seasons play? If the team doesn't believe he can sustain/surpass last season for the next 2-3 yrs. then get what you can for him and don't look back.

Just finished listening to locked on Dolphins and can’t believe the lastest is Howard’s camp is supposedly using the fact that other players like the kicker and Baker got paid as a disrespect to him?

Think about how that sounds? Think about when the Dolphins made him the highest paid at his position in the league.
