Former Dolphins scout threatening to sue the team after contract not renewed

So, near as I can tell, Hickey wasn't okay with his scouting personnel of game tapes not being able to be in the building to go over said reports and game film and have face-to-face conversations. While previous regimes had been okay with it. I've got no problem with Hickey deciding he needs certain things to be a certain way to get his job done and help the team be successful. The scout, instead of being grateful to the team for paying him for over a decade to work from home, decides he's going to sue the team because his wife's medication is too expensive and through his lawyer uses the whole Jonathan Martin BS as his reasoning for a lawsuit.

A. The scouts a dick for not accepting his new boss has new rules and thinking he's so f'n special that the world should revolve around his needs and not the company's.
B. The scout and/or his lawyer are both dicks for bringing up anything to do with the Jonathan Martin situation because....HE WASN"T EVEN F'N there! He was at home in his f'n pajamas! What the F does he care about the Jonathan Martin situation except to set himself up for a lawsuit?
C. As to the cost of your meds and that its not going to be covered under any private plan you can afford or COBRA.....cry me a river and complain to Obama's ass, because of his new f'n rules you get what you get. Don't like it? Vote for politicians who want to get rid of it. Hire a lawyer to sue the government, not your employer. Go stand on a streetcorner with a sign for a politician who doesn't agree with the New World Order. Douche.

This is exactly how I feel. The previous regime went above and beyond what they were legally obligated to do and now they are essentially being sued for not continuing special treatment.

You all do realize that his job performance was in no way impact by remote work status, right? If Hickey wanted face to face meetings there is such a thing as video chat, which is FREE for anyone with an internet connection.

They definitely could have made it work if his performance was up to par. To boot him over some old fashioned BS is just a dude being on a power trip.

Now if it was about performance, I have no issues with it, but then say it was a PERFORMANCE issue when you fire he guy.

Poorly handled by the Dolphins all around...

So if Hickey's wife gets a deadly disease then Dennis better not be spending his time at home with her either or Ross should fire him.

Absolutely, just like everyone else in society. It's not a company's responsibility to let someone work from home because they have a sick family member, that's what FMLA is for.

It's all about "reasonable" accommodation
I think it's reasonable to demand a scout not
Work from home and if their benefits change,
Well I don't see that as litigation worthy

Neither does he or his lawyer, which is why you're hearing bullygate being thrown into the suit. They know they have a very weak case otherwise.

OmG, this is totally gonna ruin the team now! How will we ever win more than 3-4 games now?!?! Ughhh! We're doomed! Doomed that is!

If that's not the way he chooses to run his scout team, why should he be bound to this? Set up a video monitor for this ONE scout to skype while all the other scouts are in the conference room for a meeting? Why? because he has a sick wife? Would it have been nice gesture to make this accommodation? Sure. But to be mandated to do it because he's been able to do it for the last 10 years? That is beyond ridiculous. I've been in corporate management for many years and have heard some of the most ludicrous requests you can imagine, but for someone to sue for not receiving it? That's a whole other can of worms.

It's not whining, it's commenting on a news item. If the Dolphins weren't in the news cycle every other week for something embarrassing I would have nothing to comment/whine about. So of you don't like it, blame the Dolphins, not me.

Men! Dolphins will pay him to go away it is how things work these days!

After sleeping on this, my current perspective is that other than this being red meat for the Fins Pavlovians and agendist assholes like Florio, the reality is that new GMs not only have the right, but regularly do reset their infrastructure by firing incumbents who may not reflect their incoming philosophies and hiring those who do. Having everyone beneath him on the same page and eliminating weak links is essential to execute his vision. This shouldn't be up for discussion. What if a new HC came in and a strength coach sued because his firing would affect someone under his coverage? Are we stuck with him? What if it were our last one or Turner for that matter? What if Cam Cameron sued because Parcells did not take into consideration his family's mental health issues if documented? it's just beyond ridiculous. And it's laughable using Satan and Rancid Tuna as examples of prudent judgement to retain this scout! How did our records work out under those two? Didn't their scouting departments recommend the likes of Pat White, Matt Roth, and Jason Allen? And of course there's selecting Ronnie Brown over Aaron Rodgers. :idk:

This is rucking fidiculous! Would any of the red meat critics on here calling for change stand for a new GM coming in and being forced to keep Philbin because another one of his kids' mental health is at risk? Oh wait. Philbin could find another job if he's decent or good? Well what about this coach who obviously would rather sue than auction off his acquired scouting skills to the highest bigger in the league? IMO, that alone speaks volumes.

I agree with you about the suing part. I am not a litigious person. I think he is abusing the system a bit with this case. But it still doesn't excuse the Dolphins for not handling this appropriately.

I'm pretty sure Ross, Philbin or Hickey could get caught kicking a homeless person on the street and people here would excuse their behavior.

You are assuming he was a college scout. What if he was a advanced scout who watched and broke down the next team?

Mr. obnoxious, what gives you the right to limit my commentary? Is that not what this forum is for? Or is it only for commentary that defends the Dolphins hierarchy against any and all actions they take, good or bad? If there weren't constant negative media stories related to the Dolphins to comment on, my honest commentaries (which are viewed by some as whining) wouldn't appear so frequently. So if people have an issue with the "frequency" of my posts, they are only frequent because the issues that arise are frequent. Again, I don't create the story, I just comment on it.
