Saints fan here and here is my opinion on Reggie. Bush never lived up to the pedraft hype. He wasn't the second coming of Gayle Sayers, but he was still a valuable assest to my Saints. I wish the Saints would have kept him. I also wish he could have stayed healthier while here.
Watching Bush play will make you curse him in disgust one play saying "
why the frick did he just do that? jeez that was pathetic" , then the next play make you say.. "
Wow, did he just do that? That was amazing!". And honestly there was a little more of the famine than feast going on, BUT.... what I like most about Bush was that he always gave it everything he had. He always had that intense competitor mode on in every game. So when he made a bonehead play or a fumble because of poor security or muffed punt return, he would be as pissed at himself as you would be of him. Bush was refreshing after the years of having Aaron Brooks smile on the sidelines after every INT he threw or losing a fumble.
He would get criticized alot for running out of bounds and not getting an extra yard or 2 by lowering his shoulder, but if that extra yard or 2 meant a first down,
then he would give everything he had to get it. I didn't mind. Why risk injury for another yard or 2 after getting a 1st down already.
In my opinion think Sean Payton didn't utilize him as well as he could have. That's just me armchair coaching though. Also, Bush may not have had great looking stats for a RB as far as rushing, but really you should add in his receiving stats. It seemed like 90% of reggies catches were from behind the line scrimmage so most of those receiving yards were not only YAC, but also almost like rushing yards... think of it like a long hand off
I will miss Bush. He was great for the team and the city. He will always have the championship that he shares with the Saints and New Orleans. I hope he does well in Miami but I do not look forward to seeing Reggie highlights without him being in a Saints uniform. It just wont seem right to me.
