People are always lumping Ireland and Tony together as some kind of package.
Fact is, Ireland is prudently managing the finances and letting players go who he feels are too expensive for their talent levels. Plus, he's good at rooting out those late round gems. If I'm Ross, I'd be pretty happy with JI, not ecstatic but happy. Now that Ireland knows we're not getting another QB and Tony's days could be numbered, I think he's tightening the pursestrings to keep us in good financial shape for the next coach. Ireland is planning to be around for the next regime and isn't going to let Tony go wild on pickups that the next coach would never have sanctioned.
For that reason, there are no big desperation splashes in FA. Ireland is managing the ship like it isn't his last year. Tony (if he has sense) is managing it like it is.
