I agree next week...but unless Im crazy..dont most teams sit their 1st team the majority of the last game.

I think Saban's mind should have been decided by now IMO.

I agree with this. I think that fact that playing time is significantly reduced in the last pre season game plays a major role in the decision. I think Saban starts Gus because he won't play either enough next week to tell anything and because he doesn't want to change his mind at the last moment. I think Gus wins by default. I think Gus has taken the reps with the 1st team for 2 weeks and started and played the first approx. 3 quarters with the 1st team in the last game. But I also think Gus is on a short leash. It's not who I think should start, but who I think WILL start.

AJ b/c he has more upside that career backup Gus.

also Gus isn't the future of this team.

why start him? just to go 8-8 and then what? we still have the qb problem for next year with a so so draft pick.

i say go with AJ to see if he is the future qb of this team and if he is we use that top pick on an LT or if he isn't then we know we need a top pick on the QB.

Chirp...Chirp...Chirp

Wonder if those 6 guys are lonely out there...its mighty dark out right now.

before this game, it was 65 gus and 35 aj.

lots of people fell of the gus bandwagon.

good for you!!!!!!!!!!

we have to play feeley he has more upside he is younger he just needs more reps feeley looked poised under pressure tonight was a good test against a good buc defence.

A.J. has no chance to start. You can tell based on who is in the game when he comes in. No way Saban is going to play Feeley with all the scrubs then make him the regular season starter at the last minute.

Moreover, Gus should start. He is not sharp now but we are a more dangerous team with him. He's been too flat on several deep throws but that has not been his history. He still has plenty of arm as evidenced by the Hail Mary to conclude the first half. That play started from our 45 yet Gus got it 6 yards deep in the end zone, in fact overthrowing the entire group of WRs and defenders who seemingly didn't believe he could get it that far.

Drops are normally excuses I don't make. But Chambers and (predictably) Booker blew long gains for Gus. The pass to Chambers looked like Frerotte's best play of the night. He waited patiently, adjusted, stepped up slightly and threw confidently with the perfect arch. It may have been a few inches more outside than ideal but a WR with Chambers' skill and reputation should have grabbed it with ease, for a TD or out of bounds inside the 5.

Feeley simply throws underneath too often, particularly on first down. For some reason he insists on immediately isolating the short receiver on first down pass plays. He'll throw downfield only when the down and distrance virtually mandates it, like the TD toss to Thompson vs. NE last year. I can think of only one first down exception tonight and that was the deep ball to Mann, one that nearly resulted in a TD. If Feeley suddenly understands that's legal he'll be much more of a threat to start.

Good point, Doc ...but I would rather be off by two yards than 20 incompletions.:shakeno:

I added AJs ATT honest mistake. Thanks for correcting me.;)

I don't see how it is even close. Gus has looked awful. The guy can't hit a man in stride for the life of him. His lone TD came on a pass that was intended for another man and slipped out of his hand. Feeley hasn't blown anyone away, but at least he is completing passes. Also the whole, "He likes to dump the ball off" theory was proven wrong tonight as he hit Farmer long and just barely led Mann out of bounds on another long pass. He may not have thrown many deep passes in the pre-season, but he has shown he has the ability to, compared to Gus who can't connect on a deep pass to save his life. Feeley has to be the starter at least by default right now.

I agree, but it does seem who ever we give the keys too, they seem to go bust. Maybe AJ will keep his edge this time.

I am not trying to bash u or anything.

Feeley has 7 pass attempts while completing 4 and should have completed 5 and putting the team in position to score as a starter.

How did he go bust?

No problem...I figured it was an honest mistake. Oh...and it was Gus' attempts, not AJ's.

U wanna know what I have been trying to get people o understand for so long now.

Feeley threw a bad pass to Mann. However, Mann still caught it and had atleast a chance to make a play.

Frerotte doesn't even give his WR'S a chance to make a play on his errant throws.
