Friday Morning Practice Tweets

not to self...never listen to a thing omar says again...ever
lol, yeah I want to see that for myself. Also, if it's really as good as he says...this is without Gates and Hartline...if I'm Hartline I might start getting worried.

there's too much recent game tape on these guys for it to be that good...omar must have heat exhaustion

and if those 2 guys look that much better than anyone else we are really really struggling finding nfl quality depth at the position...

People are weighing these practice tweets to heavily. What matters will be the game next Friday. If these guys cant do it in the game it doesnt matter how good they look in practice. We know how opinionated these reporters are anyway. Some of these interceptions may not be the QBs fault, and some of these "dropped passes" may not be the WRs fault, and maybe Vontae was just having cramps like he did last year. Who knows...1st game is in 7 days

It could be Nannee is a good practice player...could explain how he got so many reps in San Diego before they gave up on him and how he became a starter in Carolina before they finally sat him down. Maybe he doesn't show up in games.

Wallace, however, seems to be getting it. He was quiet today but he's had a good camp and now this Holden kid the last two days has started making plays as well as Fuller. Someone tweeted to Omar that they thought Rishard Matthews looked really good and Omar said he didn't pay attention to him. That was someone that went to camp today. It may be that the bottom of the WR corp is better than it has been but I'm not overly confident with what we have at the top.

Chad was on fire today. He was everywhere, special teams...naw better leave that alone. Great practice.

I see you lurking, .....

well your top 4 wrs is what your gonna primarily go to war with...we need guys that can win one on one man matchups...davon bess can win one on one in the slot...chad johnson sounds like he can still win on certain routes...i expect to see a lot of off man against him...those slant routes if they are as crisp as we are hearing should be there...naanee hasn't won against nfl dbs his entire career...hartline can't win consistently...

good luck on 3rd down qbs...

San Diego didn't "just get rid of" Nanee ..... He played well in 2010 when their WR core was ravaged by injuries.

In 2011, SD got their core back ..... i.e. Jackson, Floyd, Crayton and they weren't going to reach contractually to keep a 4th WR.

Last year he sucked .... but all of his previous years were better than anything Nanee has ever done and he can punt return on special teams.

the thing about chad johnson is if guys play him off man and try to drive on the football and he does damage in front of them with the slant routes and quick stuff etc whats the next thing top team dbs are gonna do...they're gonna press him and bump him off the line and ride him off his preferred route line and i just don't know if he's still got the quick explosion and get off and ability to separate against that kind of coverage...sean smith said his first step is still very good but that's sean smith...everyone usually gets a free inside release against him...3 weeks in the opposition will have the book on what chad johnsons got left...and know what he can and can't still do

hell they may know it by the end of the preseason...

Does anyone know who Anderson Russell dude is? I've heard about him getting an INT or PBU every practice it seems.

good luck on 3rd down qbs...
Thats why we need to stay away from 3rd and longs as much as possible. Also, don't forget about Bush and Miller as well as Clay/Fasano/Egnew. Bush is a legitimate option out of the slot...and if Clay can fix his case of the dropsies it pretty much sounds like he gets separation at will out there. I think if Clay can become a huge weapon for us...it opens up a lot for the mediocre WR core

crayton sucked as a wr just before he left dallas...been dreadful in san diego at it...only value he had left was punt returns and all his speed was gone...its like davon bess on punt returns...

no doubt...imo clay is critical...you can put bush or miller in the slot but that means your taking your best slot guy out of there in bess...if its 3rd and long the oppositions not gonna cover bush or miller with no 2 down lb slug...

it's pretty critical we get to 3rd and 5 or less...if we want to keep moving the chains

Johnson is clearly a few notches above any other receiver on our roster. What they are doing with Vontae is sensible, making sure he isn't complacent. I also wonder in the nickel would he be better in the slot, would imagine he would be good on blitzes. Clays drops isn't a big surprise and it definitely is a problem, maybe as he gets more comfortable he can think less and catch better. Even things like Long saying he is the healthiest he has been in years is really exciting, it's hard not to get too get too excited this time of year.
