Gaine out as assistant GM

Good for Gaine. He is in a good spot esp if Bill O'Brien wanted him.

Several Things

1. Often in hierarchical organizations when an internal candidate opts for a promotion to a higher echelon position and does not get it they leave. This is to keep from the organization having a power struggle or the old candidate undercutting the new one. Letting Gaine explore other options is absolutely the RIGHT and JUST thing to do, especially considering how the process went down.

2. Gaine's reputation is is framed in the context of hitting the homerun with Wake. That is fantastic, but it troubles me that the primary argument to hire Gaine always looped back to Wake. Going 1-5 and hittting a home run is not as good as someone who has hit two singles and a double.

which leads me to this.

3. If Gaine had been an exceptional candidate truly exceptional(remember we had full transparency with Gaine) then he would likely be our GM and if nothing else he would likely still be here.
