Big, fast, athletic, and great hands!Give me this guy in Round 2. Then go LB or DT (best available) in round 3. I have a feeling this is the next great TE. Watch his film and check out the hands, and him make catches over the middle. Maybe he dosen' t block well, but Im ok with that.

I'm with you ...I actually favor him more than Goedert. Wouldn't be upset with either one but give me Gesicki if they're both available

Me too, I don't even care if they just play him as a receiver. He's a clone of Mike Evans.

Would love it but this is what happens when you marry yourself to one player and he is selected ahead of us or not by us. Then the rant thread follows.

All those who wanted Mayfield last night are pissed today.

Either of these 2 would really be a fantastic pick. The draft would be off to a brilliant start. 3rd round, check the board, and see if a QB is there that you feel great about, if not just go BPA, as long as it's a LBer!!

I made similar comments to some here in the TE thread. I'm all in on Gesicki if he's there at our pick. I don't care if he can block, that can be taught but Gesicki's size and athleticism cannot.

I just am not sure we have the luxury for an athletic TE project. I guess I'm still shell shocked from Egnew (Not saying Gesicki and Egnew are analogs)

I wouldn’t be surprised if TE is not addressed until later in the draft. Don’t get me wrong, I want to see us draft a top TE prospect but we could go LB, OL, or QB before a TE.

We never draft a TE early and it's always been position we have deflected early in the draft in recent years. I'm betting we go maurice Hurst DT Michigan with our 2nd round pick tonight.

I'm on board with Goedert/Gesicki. One of them has to be the pick at 42 if we're serious about giving Tannehill a real shot to be the best he can be.

I preference Goedert because I see more effort from him as a blocker, and they're both terrific receivers. Gesicki is a freak of athlete though.

Help me out here guys. I want get past something but I can’t.

Seems to me if you hope to be a TE in the NFL you know blocking is a requirement. If you haven’t bothered to develop it doesn’t that speak to your level of commitment and professionalism?

People can and do improve their blocking... it's not a given that it'll happen but it Does happen all the time. And for all of you who are complaining about Gesicki and Goederts blocking you know who else couldn't block to save his life coming out of college? Jimmy Graham!

    You got your wish!

Something i was typing up earlier - You only take Gesicki if you are going to let him run vertical....seams, posts, corners, etc. and let him flex outside from time to time. He isn't physical and run after catch in traffic isn't great, so he doesn't excel in the trash underneath.....and blocking is terrible. If you aren't going to run those sets often, then it's a bit of an odd pick and defenses can key on plays based on his positioning. If you are going to use more set like that and tailor to his strengths......things could be fun!

I'm pleasantly pleased with that pick as i was with Fitzpatrick yesterday. 2nd round I wanted a TE. Job done. Now go grab a LB.

So if you had the chance, you would not draft a rookie Jimmy Graham?

I love this pick. This is what I was hoping for at 42. We’re getting the physical freak seam threat te that we’ve neeeded for what seems like forever. I’m pleasantly surprised how well this draft has gone for us thus far. Hoping we take Shaq Griffin lb ucf somewhere even if it’s a bit of a reach.

Booyah!!!! This guy is the athletic freak we have never had at TE! Blocking Te's are a dime a dozen. We can pick one up in round 7. Maybe Fasano will be back. I'm very excited about how this guy improves our offense. Matchup nightmare that will make Tannyhill better

This is unbelievable ... I've pinched myself to make sure it's not a dream. But the Dolphins are actually doing the "what if" and drafting the players I would have drafted! W00000000000h00000000000000000!!!!!!

Mike Gesicki is the best TE in this draft. He has legit huge size to be a red zone threat and 3rd down safety net at 6'6 with a 41.5" vertical (crazy!) and long arms. He's a former basketball (scored almost 1,900 points in his high school career) and volleyball star who is great at high pointing the ball and coming down with the rebound in traffic. He's the prototypical seam threat with size, length and leap to add to his 4.54 forty time and good hands. This guy scares the heck out of LB's, safeties and anyone tasked with covering him ... ever. As a TE who can be a threat in every way in the passing game, he was THE best, even more athletic than the Alabama kid not too long ago.

Gesicki can also block, not great, but he can do it a bit. He has the length to be a pass protector and blitz pickup audible guy. He isn't polished as a run blocker yet, but he is working at it as he did a lot of blocking for Saquon Barkley and is a willing learner with size and length.

This is the most complete and most athletic TE I've seen since maybe Rob Gronkowski. Yeah ... awesome kid, awesome player, awesome athlete, and awesome pick. Well don Chris Grier & Co. You guys crushed it.

Just my 2 cents but I absolutely love this pick...I've watched a lot of this kid and he is without a doubt a walking mismatch for defenders. Whether it be a lb, s, or corner he high points the ball very well and will compete for balls that are slightly off target. These picks have rejuvenated my faith in this team...

In case people are unclear about Mike Gesicki, here is a direct comparison between Gesicki and Jimmy Graham.

    Mike Gesicki:
    Forty: 4.54
    Vertical: 41.5"
    Broad Jump: 10'9
    Bench Press: 22
    Three Cone: 6.76
    Twenty Yard Shuttle: 4.1
    Sixty Yard Shuttle: 11.33

    Jimmy Graham:
    Forty: 4.56
    Vertical: 38.5"
    Broad Jump: 10'0
    Bench Press: DNP
    Three Cone: 6.9
    Twenty Yard Shuttle: DNP
    Sixty Yard Shuttle: 11.76

So literally, in every single combine measurable that they both did, Mike Gesicki was just a tad better than Jimmy Graham athletically. The sole question marks were Bench Press and Twenty Yard Shuttle in which Jimmy Graham did not participate. I'm confident that Gesicki would have bench pressed more than Graham, and likely the twenty yard shuttle as well honestly.

So as far as basketball players go ... we have a phenom.

For comparison, when Rob Gronkowski came out (2010 like Jimmy Graham), he was coming off a major back injury, so the only drill he did was the bench press, and he did 23 reps, only 1 rep more than Gesicki.

IMHO, Mike Gesicki has the very real chance to become the best TE in Dolphins history (including Keith Jackson).

    Phins Up!

To be absolutely blunt about the pick of a athletic TE....its about freaking time. You people through the years preaching hope and optimism, well tonight was a glimmer of it. Give me a TE who does TE things in the modern NFL, and you got a chance.

I still want a Guard or another TE though.

Could be an EPIC pic. I hope so.

Obvious super athlete -- not 100% football TUFF but we need impact players and this kid (PENN ST is still great pedigree) has huge upside.

If ?????? Gase is an offensive guru -- this kid should help him prove that -- perhaps in a very BIG way!

Here are Bucky Brooks' instant draft grades ... and understandably he LOVES Mike Gesicki. Lance Zerlein rated him as the top TE in the draft and compared him to Jimmy Graham. In another thread I compared him to Graham and Gesicki is slightly bigger, slightly longer, slightly stronger, slightly faster, and slightly better jumper than Jimmy Graham. Yeah ... we got a special TE.

Excellent points and the basis for my excitement. Dude was brought here to do what he does best, first and foremost. The rage for awhile was basketball players as TEs. Fluck that give me a volleyball player. Those guys are smooth atheltic freaks.

With that kind of athletic ability i'd be shocked if he couldn't develop adequate blocking abilities.

Mismatches galore with Parker, Stills and Grant. Jakeem Grant hasnt been talked about much this offseason but i think big things are in store for him.

Digital - if you think he can develop into even a half decent blocker i will be optimistic

I wouldn’t mind a blocking type TE later in the draft though after addressing other needs
