gordon for gerrard??? has anyone heard about this?

I could see Jacksonville making the move for their 3rd stringer (Gray) but not Garrard. He did a good job for them when Leftwich was out last season and in the NFL, you need to proven QB's to win. Therefore, Garrard isn't going anywhere even though they have Leftwich!

I think would be a good move, based on a few things. One the salary Garrard wants, and two, how desperate the Jaguars are. Gerrard hasn't really had a chance to prove himself. I know alot of boys down in Jacksonville who praise this kid. I'm thinking for Gordon... not a bad idea. If Ronnie signs we will have;

Ronnie
Ricky
Travis
Sammy

That is enough talented backs on it owns, we might as well get value from Gordon. Possibly we could get a pick thrown in there, if the Jags are desperate enough. Then I believe it is a done deal.

Bring in Gerrard, at the end of the season take a shot at Brees or Rivers, whichever is available. Then we have those two, Feeley, and Frerrotte duke it out. One gets cut/traded (for a pick maybe?). Then we have a solid QB, with a solid backup, and a solid 3rd stringer.

Brees?
Feeley?
Garrard?

But there are many possibly combinations.

That leaves us with one veteran who knows the system, Frerrotte. If Brees is available then one probowl QB in his prime, if its Rivers than one young gun with alot of potential. Then Feeley and Garrard who both have alot of potential. Lots of choice at QB.

What exactly has he done to be good?

My sentiments exactly!
Did'nt we learn enough handing over the franchise to the last backup QB we took from Jacksonville? NO THANKS!

Except we're not handing it over this time. Just offering the kid a chance. How much value is Gordon to us? Not much...

Do you know what kind of trade this is? This is a trade that Wanny would make because of how idiotic it is. We will draft a QB, not trade for another unproven one. Jesus Christ...

Good call, it is a Wanny-esque trade... Hopefully the Fins are done making incredibly bad deals so again, NO THANKS!

I am tried of going after QB's who haven't done anything in the NFL. I would wait until next year to get a QB who has started and done good at it.

LMAO Too many of you are focused on drafting a quarterback. When really drafting one is JUST as dangerous as trading. Except when you get ihm in the first round you get to pay him a huge contract. Quarterbacks only pan out like what, 20% of the time? Every single year there are about 4 QBs drafted in the first round. Yet in the NFL there are only what 15-20 "good" quarterbacks...

"good" being the gamebreaking standard you all wish to seek as we somehow know the next Marino will always be in the draft we are looking for a QB.

Now that is a silly statement...just because Ears turned into a pumpkin doesn't mean anyone else will...if we had traded for Brunnell a couple of years ago, most people on this board would have been singing praises about Speilman (at the time of the trade, as it turned out, he probably would have been a bust here like he was at Wash.).... You can't compare the two trades at all...completely different circumstances...

With Saban here I don't think we'll be trying to make chicken S@#t into Chicken salad anymore like Wanny did.
Saban believes the QB position is an important one so I just don't see trading a RB that does have value for a QB that has proven zero about playing in the NFL. IMO we'll be drafting a QB with the potential to be a quality starter in the NFL next year so why we'd trade a good player for marginal talent at QB now makes no sense.

Lienhart wont even be the first QB taken next year, that position will be held by Heisman winner Chris Leak.

I hope that you was just kidding.

How much value does Gordon have? Garrard has done much more filling in for Leftwich, then Gordon did filling in for Faulk. When looking at this based on who has proven what, Gordon is worthless. While Garrard is no Peyton Manning, he still has done something in the NFL. Enough to get some people's attention.

Yes the 2 situations in themselves are different yet the overall concept of dredging other teams rosters for backups with a prayer they'll turn into a starter is what is truly silly. Again, Saban's phillosophy considers the QB position much more important than Wanny's philosophy.

When we bring in a prospective QB for the future he'll be one that has a legitimate shot at being a quality NFL starter. I don't see Saban wasting time bringing another marginal prospect that has had some success off the bench as his only credentials. I don't see anything special in Gerrard and think we'd be the team getting ripped off trading Gordon straight up for him.

You're missing the point. Gordon is starter quality and Garrard is not going to unseat Leftwich which makes him expendable.

It is foolish to think Leinhart or anyone else who will be drafted has any better a chance at success than Garrard. Either way its a gamble...
