Gotta love the "draft experts" on this forum

James is a good player and he'll start day 1 but it was a tremendous reach in an event that's all about value..

Sums up everything perfectly. We haven't had a front office that gets this is a very long time, which explains why this franchise has been completely irrelevant for a long time

Come on man. You are trying to tell me that the people on finheaven dont know as much as people who get paid lots and lots of money to do this for a profession? (Good post OP)

I do wonder how some people on this website dress themselves in the morning.

Look, I like James as a player...I simply disagree with were he was picked.

There were certainly other Tackles there like Moses Morgan and Kouandgio there that nobody drafted in picks 20-32...so its a fair argument that we could have traded down and picked up an extra pick.

Especially in light of the Saints moving up to 20 to get Brandin Cooks(my choice at 19)....its a fair argument to make that we could have been that trade partner.

zach thomas was an afterthought in ROUND 5! as far as jason taylor he was projected to go in the late 1st to 2nd rd, i was shocked we got him late 3rd.

The way I see it is, Hickey had James pegged at that position unless one of the other top Ol fell to him, he thought about dropping down but was afraid he would not get his man if he did it, in his mind if his man wasn't there he would be going into the season with a project at RT and possibly RG and he didn't want to do that. It took the safe pick, lets wait until the season to see if he made the correct choice.....

I would have liked one of the secondary guys at that spot but lets see how the draft unfolds......

anyone notice that almost every pick from almost every team was for "need".

I did. I think I heard the word need more than any other all night long.

started wondering....all teams draft need.

In the words of Jimmy Johnson. If you know a guy is your guy and will be your guy from day 1, you take him. Its simpleton I know. hard to handle for some.

How is it the Pats reach and yet the media lines up to kiss Bill B's arse?

Philly, putzburgh, and AZ reached too. Then, I thought Minny & St L were the day 1 winners not Cleveland.

p.s. Did anyone notice what the "experts" gave the Titans?

Because Bill will coach the hell out of whoever he picks and they will look good, when you are in the Championship game every yr you get the benefit of the doubt...we can't make the playoffs so its easy to pick on us....

The Browns had a great draft, they are a good team, if their QB didn't tear up his knee last yr they take the last spot for the playoffs, The defense got better and if Johnny can play they have two good QB.....Farmer did a nice job yesterday......

Thats not an argument at all, you can pretty much etch that in stone as fact. The argument is whether or not that trade was fair value. Obviously Hickey was open to making a deal and just as obvious Hickey didn't think the Saints offer was fair. Which also means Hickey likely had James rated much higher than the other cornfeds.

If it was such a no brainer that James would be there at 27 then why didn't we just take Cooks at 19 and trade him to NO for James and their third? Do you think they would have taken that deal and taken all the risk? I would have taken Cooks anyway just to throw a monkey wrench in the Saints plans and put a "for sale" sign on him, not sure why GMs don't use that option more often but it seems to me if you really want to up the pressure to get fair value then just take their guy and continue the discussion.

Every year we have these threads bashing fellow members who have been right for the past 10 years...

Keep it up. We had these threads last year about Ireland's drafting....and you all were wrong.

Same thread every year after the draft the past 10 years...and Guess who's always been wrong - People that think like you.

Mediocrity forever.

I do think we blew an opportuniy...and I absolutely love Cooks and hate to think about what he will do with Brees and Jimmy Grahm.

I like James...wanted him in round two even if we had to trade up for him.

I just think we forced a pick we didn't have to make.

Again...no other O-lineman got drafted 20-32.

ou are trying to tell me that the people on finheaven dont know as much as people who get paid lots and lots of money to do this for a profession?

the same paid people who miss as much as as the fanz do?

the ONLY thing different with those guys and the true draftniks on boards is they get paid. they are no more right or wrong than MANY fanz on the boards.

James is a good player and he'll start day 1 but it was a tremendous reach in an event that's all about value. Could have traded back and got the same player along with more picks. That's how you get ahead. That's how the New England Patriots have won Super Bowls and dominated the draft. They understand value and the Dolphins don't. And that's why year after year we're spinning our tires in the mud.

You are incorrect and uninformed. He was not a tremendous reach. We may or may not have been able to get him later so they took the sure thing. A reach is not a sure thing. He was a need pick and the best RT on the board, and a guy many thought was a round one prospect. He will be a starter day one and we don't have to convert him, he's incredibly durable, high character and has played nearly 50 games in a row at that position in the SEC.

Go check out the tread: Ja´Wuan James vs Alabama, South Carolina & Oregon to get educated.

Ignorance is bliss.

58 sacks last year dude! Nuff said.

My critique was of media bias & their flawed perception not Belichick (who I like) or Cleveland even though I think Johnny2 is a faster, smaller, more arrogant version of St Timmy.
