Gotta love the "draft experts" on this forum

A lot of this "value" discussion is way overblown. Trading down to achieve fair value is applicable only when you have on your board multiple players with equivalent grades so that you would be indifferent as to which player is available to you. If Hickey only had a 1st round grade on James, then obtaining "value" is not applicable. Many are commenting that not trading down was a huge error by stating that Moses, Bitonio or Kouandjio would have been available. Their availability is irrelevant unless they too had a 1st round grade.

Many fans here are believing that this is their fantasy football draft. The trenches matter in real football and the ignorance around is here is quite astounding.

That's 5 of how many whiffs in the last several years. Besides, I think you can take Gronk and Hernandez off of that list. Everyone knew these guys were superbly talented, it was Gronk's injury history that made him slide and Hernandez's character (which was obviously dead on) which made him slide. The Pats do not draft well. They get a ton of picks, throw **** at the wall and see what sticks, and it rarely does for them. They have Tom Brady, a good line and a hall of fame coach, that's where it begins and ends for that team.

How many Pro Bowlers have we drafted while the Pats have been drafting those guys?

As far as Gronk goes, gimme a break. I would love to have him in Miami today, and so would you. He's had injuries, but when he's on the field he's an almost unstoppable force. It's no accident that the Pats had the #1 offense when he was on the field last year.
 
BPA is not a luxury we enjoyed. We had NO RT, ZERO RT, we gave up 58 sacks and couldn't run the football. We got a very good, durable day 1 starter and team captain. The risk/ reward wasn't there to trade down. At the time of our pick JuWaun James was the #1 player on our board, NOT #1 RT, #1 player. We pulled the trigger because we have to stop getting Tannehill killed. If Hickey thought he could trade down and still get his guy he would have done it!

What does fantasy football have to do with not reaching in the NFL draft? And of course the trenches matter. But so do other positions. And it's not like taking James at #19 was the absolute only option to improve the trenches.
 
I have never understood the logic that the draft is "about value". People act as though the NFL Draft is a poker game that each GM is trying to win by outwitting his opponents. If you relate it to stock investing, NFL draft prospects should be analogous to Growth stocks: I should be less concerned about the price at which I buy in so long as my investment triples in price in 5 years. Unlike Growth stock investing, Value stock investing is all about buying at the right entry point. But those are the stocks you intend to dump soon thereafter after hopefully making a small profit. Yes, there is also the concept of GARP, which is Growth at a Reasonable Price. This sounds good in theory, but there is no guarantee that these stocks will outperform the "pure" Growth stocks, especially when the investment horizon is long-term. The role of a football GM should be to identify the best "pure" Growth stocks rather than worry about identifying stocks with the best entry points.

Anybody mad at this pick is crazy, we needed a right tackle and we got one...my buddy who watches more college than pros said it was a good pick and I'll take his word over all you knee jerk reaction fools.

Also in order to trade down u need a trade partner, its easy to just say we should've traded down for more picks but if there's no one to trade down with then how do u trade down? Enlighten me please all you internet draft gurus.
