Grading the Ja'Wuan James Pick Now

Same can be said for the names on that list but the fact of the matter is, he's holding his own in camp against one of the best DL's in football. That's saying something even though we haven't played any real games yet. If you ask me, you can tell a lot about a player evaluating one on one blocking drills going against the likes of Wake, Vernon, Starks, and young players trying to make a team. The fact that he's doing ok, and those others are struggling.. means something. It would definitely mean something if he was struggling thus far... so gotta be fair.

whatever helps you sleep at night i guess...i will wait to see it for myself cause i sure havent been hearing any he's winning one on ones stuff with our top guys...and he's sure to face chandler jones a plenty week 1...and mario williams week 2...and both the kc studs week 3 and the raiders top 5 pick sub package rusher week 4....and on and on

Let's let him play in real games. After hearing us linked to James and watching film of him, I was ok with taking him when we did. I'm glad he seems to be holding his own in practice but gotta see it in an actual game.

Kuandijio and Moses struggling aren't big shocks to me (I think Kuandijio ultimately has to move inside) but there's plenty of time to improve.

You obviously never saw the Ted Ginn college highlight video. It was exciting. His pure speed when in stride was exceptional. He was a world class sprinter. What we didn't understand and wasn't in the highlights was Ted's penchant for avoiding any physical contact. We also didn't understand that he had to catch the ball and when he did, having an enormous stride was great for the track but not a great asset in the NFL unless in the open.

The point being, Ginn was an explosive player. He didn't work out, but that's irrelevant to the conversation here because he was an explosive playmaker that we drafted. I fully understand he was a complete bust for us.

he's gonna get hit hard early, we'll see how he holds up then. for a change I will take a solid player composed to a superstar at prob one of our biggest positions of need. and as far as explosive....teddy ginn, lamar miller, vontae davis, and dion Jordan were all mentioned. lamar miller wasn't a first rounder so you can really pin him with the rest. honestly ted ginns potential peak was a mike Wallace who we paid 10 mil + for. outside WR who is a speed demon, I wanted brady Quinn so im not gonna complain about our choice. we knew he was a stellar KR and a burner. if ted ginn was on our roster today he would be slotted as a 53 lock and there would be no thigpin. ginn I think could be a legendary 3-4 wr (granted that doesn't get you in the hall and isn't worth a 4) if we still had ted then you'd know you were almost never out of a game after a momentum changing drive by the other team cause teddy could take it to the house on the return. im a ginn homer, I liked him since EA NCAA 06 I think when I played them and a guy kept toasting me and I was like WTF is he, and saw his name. not worth a one, but could you imagine Wallace and Ginn on outside, landry and hartline in the middle. there would be zero help in the middle from safety. Ginn is prob 4th WR on team, he even seemed to be able to slow down or turn on afterburners to adjust to underthrown or underthrown deep passes unlike Wallace.
Vontae Davis is somehow ranked as a top CB. super maturity issues, his brother isn't the brightest either. Vontae is CB2 if he was on the team now a days. we traded him more cause of maturity and not cause of production.
Dion Jordan....you cant put him in this convo yet. his shoulder was shot and you have no clue what that might've done to his technique. I had no clue who he was, I wanted t Austin all the way, a go over the middle WR with speed, not just a track runner. the jury is still out on Jordan. I guess week 5 we'll start realizing if a full off season of being healthy and who knows what supplements help him. he was a 3-4 OLB coming out of college, we want him as a DE. lets see the conversion now that he has grown into a 4-3 DE's body, maybe he's our next JT, we gotta give him more than an injured year.
and since Lamar Millers name came up. he's not a scatback, he's a give me a hole and ill go RB. he needs to miss his first man about 3-4 yards down the field while at full acceleration to be successful. the dolphins OL did not provide that.
out of those 4 playmakers that we drafted instead of a solid pick, all 4 would make our 53.

I didn't like the pick at where we picked him and I have seen nothing to change my mind. They are giving him some heavy doses of Wake and that will make him better, but from all I've heard Cam is beating him like a drum at will. As many others have said it is WAYYY too early to start the "I told ya so" crap. Lets see how he plays Friday at the very least.

The one big point you have to keep in mind is that we HAD to have him become our starter opening day. The other 2nd rd OTs went to teams that had other options. I like the James pick but just not where we picked him. James to me seems like a solid RT when all is said and done, but I think Moses might be just as good by the start of next year. James doesn't play with the attitude I like. Moses seems to have more "fight in the dog" like Turner has. IMO

Time will only tell, but as for me on this date, I still don't like that we didn't trade back and pick up another pick. But that is just me.

Lol at media grading rookies a handful of days into camp! The coaches have a hard enough time doing that and they see every minute plus the tape.

We oveerdrafte him but hpw the hell can we make any evaluation of the pick at this point except from our initial feelings. They haven't even played a game yet lol

Ditto. I understand the pick but Gawd, I just wanted the Dolphins to at least draft ONE explosive player for ONCE in my lifetime. Just once that's all.

Lol. Dion Jordan isn't explosive enough for you???

No he isn't with or without steroids. When you trade up to number 3 you selected a immediate impact player and starter not a luxury pick/situational player, and that is exactly why Ireland is unemployed!

My opinion hasn't really changed. I wanted to trade up for Lewan if possible and still think that would have been the best option.

My second choice was to trade up to get Zack Martin ... but that didn't happen either.

I thought and think James is a reach. Not a good run blocker and mediocre pass protector.

To early to give the pick a meaningful grade. But considering that we very likely could have traded back to get him, that he is pigeon holed in a ZBS meaning another square peg if we change coaches, and that he is not the talent that Lewan is ... I'd give it a D+ at the moment.

IMHO not the best choice for the position and we could have gotten him and more picks by trading back. Not a great combo.
