Grading the Ja'Wuan James Pick Now

Actually, Ireland works for the Seahawks now
Unless something changed (entirely possible), Ireland was hired as a consultant prior to the 2014 draft but was not retained after the draft.

He had a short term contract and when it expired he simply wasn't offered a permanent deal. To me, it sounded like it was never intended to be a permanent position, but rather a chance to get a large dose of other scouts' perspectives since he had that from his time in Miami. Next year he will not have that information, so no real reason to make it permanent.

To Ireland's credit, the Seahawks have a good scouting department and that they wanted his input is a complement. I'm sure he could have done the same for several other teams, such as the Patriots, but he chose to work for a team out of our division, conference, and schedule this year.

Seattle hired him because their senior director resigned unexpected and they quickly moved on from Ireland

Too early, I havent seen him yet other than in pictures....

The one pic where he seems to manhandle Wake (once again, a snapshot) I thought was pretty cool. He has all the tools and was pretty athletic for his size if I remember correctly. The heat has not gotten to him it seems, in more ways than one. Thats huge. He certainly has the position locked down. No chance he leaves the team from some unseen circumstance as far as i can tell.

with other players on roster if he was not the starting RT that would be a sign that he is awful since there is not other real option at RT.

Not in the long term other than Turner (rookie).

Too early talk to me after week 3 like hoops said James will face a ton of great DEs in the first 3 weeks

Like, say, Ted Ginn Jr.?

Yes, like Ted Ginn Jr., the only explosive player drafted in the history of the NFL draft apparently. :rolleyes2:

If we are only going to consider WRs as "explosive" players taken in the 1st, here are just a few other than Ginn:

2013
Tavon Austin
DeAndre Hopkins ("explosive," or just good? We should define the parameters, I suppose)
Cordarrelle Patterson

2012
Michael Floyd
Kendall Wright

2011
AJ Green
Julio Jones

2010
Demaryius Thomas
Dez Bryant (good thing we passed on that guy because of his mom and, you know, Ted Ginn Jr.!)

Of course, by the Ted Ginn, Jr. logic, we really shouldn't of drafted James because of Billy Milner. In fact, maybe we should trade our 1st pick, because we've whiffed on almost every position at one point or another in our history.

For everyone bringing up Ted Ginn, you realize that was 2007 right?

With it becoming apparent that the line is very possibly still a disaster, it is ridiculous that we could have taken anything else. I don't like taking need over BPA always, but there were no players that I was really mesmerized with anyway.

I've not heard much of anything coming out about him.

As far as an OLineman is concerned that is VERY, VERY great news. For the most part, this kid is holding his own against one of the very best and most dynamic DL's in the game.

Any questions? :)

Great News? Our d line is the worst in the division right now certain not the best in the game.......relax, lets see how he preforms in preseason before we say how great this news is.....
