I posted this in another thread, but I figured it deserved its own space.

Please do give this article a read: http://www.cincypost.com/2002/aug/27/beng082702.html

Written just as he was named starter in Cinci because of LeBeau's "gut feeling".. He backed up his coach's "gut feeling" by going 1TD and 5INTs in 4 games.. He flopped.

A telling quote: The pressure to produce will mount more as the season goes on. The Bengals have more depth and talent than at any time in the past 11 seasons, the last time they had a winning record and made the playoffs. If the Bengals are to break those streaks, the production at quarterback, whether it is Frerotte, Kitna or even third-stringer Akili Smith, will have to improve.

Frerotte's stats in 2002: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?statsId=2869

To all those who have this immense hope in Gus, I wouldnt get my hopes up..
Truth is, if Feeley doesnt pan out, this team is doomed this season. Gus wont win us games.

Why don't we wait and see how they perform throughout the preseason before you tell us to worry about being "doomed".

I disagree. I think Gus can with us games in this offensive system. He played well for the Vikings in this system...that was part of our staff's decision to bring him here.

They beat an expansion team Houston Texans on a guarantee! Oh and New Orleans decided not to show up, as their season was over.

He didn't just play well, he played extremely well. I don't care if Moss was there, the QB still had to get the ball to him and his throws are perfect. If the line doesn't step up, Frerotte showed the pocket presence to get things done.

So you made an entirely new thread to bash Gus, containing information you've already posted elsewhere?

I do agree that he might have found a system that fits him better, but one thing Gus has never been is consistent.. and this is witnessed in 12 years of NFL history. Gus = Jay Fiedler w/ a slightly better arm.

I liked his game last night too, but during an entire season, he has displayed time and time again that he cannot cut the mustard.

Its not bashing, its displaying the truth.. I figured others other thank Boik would like to see it..

I saw Gus play as a Denver Bronco and he played a lot better than anything I have seen from AJ Feeley....including a game in which he set the all-time Bronco record for most yards passing in a single game (Plummer has since beaten Gus' record). I think we are better off with Gus starting than AJ.

Extremely well? By god.. this is truly astounding.. His lone TD comes off a "slipped" pass intended for another person and he plays "extremely well"? Cmon.. He played well, he had some poise, he had composure, but he overthrew and underthrew some routes.. and got a lucky TD.. He slightly outperformed Feeley last night.. And although it doesnt truly need to be pointed out, he was playing Chitown's 2nd unit most of the time.
