Harris will be to the DL what James was to the OL: pure MEH.

Limited down and limited impact defender with our first pick. Neat.

Nothing has ****ing changed. Literally, with our scouts, nothing has ****ing changed.

Mind sharing details about why you think it's a bad pick or linking me to posts where youve gone over you're reasons for not liking him as a first rounder?

I honestly haven't been able to follow the draft as much as I normally would. I haven't seen the kid play at all.

He’s a situational rusher day one, which is fine because we signed Will Hayes. I think he needs to pack on the pounds a bit before he can play an every down 4-3 DE. His spin move is absolute filth. I mean, best in the draft hands down. He can move in space for which we might like to utilize him on stunts. Yes his power rush game needs some work, as does his ability to set an edge.

I get some people aren’t gonna be thrilled because workout numbers are extremely important for edge rushers, but you have to weigh up the two. And Harris’ tape is really, really good.

The bad workout numbers are the thing that concern me.

I also don't think that workout numbers are the be all and end all of it, obviously.

I just hope he's good.

I'll just copy/paste what I wrote in the "Bigfoot" thread ...

So I guess we'll get more of his jerky commercials "messin' with Sasquatch" which it seems to be.

Truly, I think this is a good pick. Not my first choice, but the kid has a lot of good points:

Good:
1. Great 1st step
2. Gets low very well
3. Strong hands and arms to finish
4. Exceptional spin move ala Freeney
5. Extremely effective shooting the on stunts/twists generating A-gap pressure
6. Nicknamed "Black Ice" because by the time you see him ... its too late. IMHO, this is in part because he uses his blockers as cover to hide behind and comes out of his separation with a very explosive first step and direct line to the QB making his pass rushes very effective and his hits sudden.
7. Can keep his speed while turning without getting looped wide
8. Can probably play SAM if we switch to a 34 scheme, and profiles as an effective player dropping into coverage in a zone blitz

Bad:
1. Poor run defense ... but the same goes for Branch and Wake honestly.
2. Unclear whether he "loves football" so monitor this one closely.
3. Takes plays off. Motor runs hot and cold. Gives up. Call it what you want, but his motor is no Cam Wake, but hopefully with Wake mentoring him, that will change.
4. Really just a situational pass rusher at this point, but hopefully he can develop into a full time DE while Wake is still here.
5. Poor tackler when runners change direction on him. He is much better when he is the aggressor, but when forced to react when people are moving towards him he is far less effective.
6. Questionable power. But he does get the low position well, so he understands leverage.
7. Once an OL gets their hands on him, he is done unless he already has the angle.
8. Needs to work on his stamina.

All in all, I can see him being more effective than Sasquatch ... jus' sayin'.

You add up the negatives bro, and what do you NOT have in year one or two?

You do NOT have a plug and play every down player who can both rush the passer and defend the run.

So that means you invested another FIRST ROUND PICK in a player that you're going to use two of the three year contract in DEVELOPING! With question marks still hanging over.

Which means you MAY get a third year as full time impact player. Just in time to have to overpay him if you want to keep him.

Which means: You could have gotten a better player or the same style player into the third round.

Sorry. Impact first round picks don't come with a whole list of 1. Athletic limitations and 2. Position limitations. And you didn't even list all the negatives.

Sorry bro. Your post only proves the point. Bad pick. James-esque player for the DL.

Dude's got the best first step in the draft and other than myles garrett probably the best pass rusher in the entire draft.

Also not surprised by the two people to thumbs up this thread. Typical and laughable.

Harris is a clone of Cam Wake. Great first step and will be getting sacks for this team for years to come.

Miami's best pass rusher is 35 and Miami doesn't have another great pass rusher. That's why Harris is a great pick

Guy was compared to Dwight Freeney. I trust this front office more than the past.

Look I won't pretend to be an x's and o's genius or to have done a lot research on college tape. I'm not that guy and so I suppose it's fair to take what I say with a grain of salt. Harris has potential to turn into a very good pass rusher, so if that happens this will go down as a solid pick.

But....

We were consistently gashed against the run last year and our first round pick is a guy whose knocks are 'terrible run defender' and 'questionable commitment to football.' Why? I cannot wrap my head around that. To be honest while I was a 'first pick D, all the way' kind of guy, I would have preferred Lamp or Robinson to Harris. I feel as if they would have more of an immediate impact on our team. We were a bubble playoff team this past season and needed immediate impact players at positions of need. I guess I'm just a little underwhelmed given how high caliber players fell in the draft.

That said, I'm holding out hope we pick up some solid players in round two. I can't justify not trading down given that we had two offers to do so, but there is still quality talent on the board. Give me Forest Lamp/Cam Robinson on offense, or Chris Wormley/Obi Melifownu/Jordan Harris/Zach Cunningham/Malik McDowell on D in the 2nd and I'll be happy.

So what athletic limitations does Harris have? I bet youre looking at combine numbers instead of actually watching him play.

And what defensive end other than ****ing myles garrett is great against the pass and the run?

Harris has one of the best motors in this draft and is probably the most complete pass rusher other than garrett.

Horrible thread. Absolutely ****ing horrible

Also, I trust a room full of NFL scouts over some Joe's on an internet forum. Sorry, not sorry.

Would've preferred to trade back. Could've taken Willis still, no matter what. Or Lamp...

At this point it is what it is, he seems like a limited athlete but has good pass rush moves. I'm not thrilled, but I'll give it a chance.

You said a LOT in that bolded part.

Dolphins kind of draft. Again.

They call it pass rush "specialist" for a reason. He's pretty damn good at what he does do.

Nobody will be complaining when he posts you 8-10 sacks a season. Its a really solid pick.

Nah, he's more of snap jumper than a twitched up athlete, hence the slow 40 time is reflective of that.

Harris was projected 10-15 range and we got him at 22. It's a steal imo.

Guess it depends on where you look. In most of the paid insider info I have he was a 2nd rd defender b/c he is not a 3 down player and a situational defender.
