Joe gives NO intellectual advantage. None.
What are we building: I don't know.
Where are the young guys with the potential to be great: I'll take my lumps and say that Ryan Tannehill is that guy. As is... uh, okay, that's a tough one.
What is Philbin showing that he's contributing: Well, after being forced to fire Mike Sherman and Jim Turner, he's shown that he can hire good and/or promising assistant coaches when the owner forces him to dump the nepotistic turd hires.
What are his special skills: He's really good at winning coach's challenges.
:idk:
I'm honestly really rooting for Joe. I want him to do well. I want him to prove me wrong, and unlike some of the people who say that about Ryan Tannehill, I actually freaking mean it. I just don't see it.
Several players have made incremental gains in this regime.
Clay
Vernon
Jones
Misi
Jenkins
Miller
I actually am seeing a lot more player growth and player development now under this regime than the previous one.
When you add that we finally have a synergistic relationship between HC and GM and hungry young coordinators there is a chance that we are building something.
In regards to the bolded question. No one knows the answer to that? I am not sitting in Davie. The only way I can measure progress is by our record. Not some attempt to decipher the tea leaves from interviews.

I've seen enough of Philbin. If we catch fire this year the most it will do -- or perhaps the least, depending on how you look at it -- it will only delay the inevitable. I don't have the stomach to do what it seems like a lot of Dolphins fans are willing to do... which is support mediocrities (Sparano, Philbin, Henne) because that gives you some temporary hopes about tomorrow even though it means years toiling in the misery of meh.
For what it's worth, I'm actually starting to think Harbaugh is a real possibility. There's so much smoke in the rumor mill now that I think there might actually be a fire. We've suffered long enough. I want to believe it can happen.

How do you square the two bolded sentences?
Sparano had a .475 record as a head coach while Philbin is at .472.
There's a lot more data points here to look at than you're acknowledging. Now, if you don't think those data points are legitimate then that's up to you, but if all you're going to look at is the record then you might consider bowing out of the conversation. Just saying.
Hue Jackson would be a good fit.
I go back to something it seems like I've posted a dozen times. Hiring Harbaugh is an "A" move and we've got a "D" owner. Ross pulling it off simply doesn't compute. It's like watching a 4 trying to chat up a 9. It doesn't matter how lonely or horny the 9 is... 4s do not land 9s.
I do think there will be the opportunity. If Jay Glazer says it's over, you can probably take it to the bank. Ross is just going to botch it, is all. And then of course the usual suspects will convince themselves that Harbaugh never wanted to come here and was just using us and all that jazz... the same stuff they say about Fisher or a bunch of the other GM candidates now.
Hue Jackson would be a good fit.
