heath evans take on feeley/frerotte

I got to meet Heath Evans last night and talk to him. He's a very educated guy, speaks very well. I was a little shaky at first watching him, but he has grown on me. To me he's like Rob Konrad without a lisp, maybe a little smaller. He's white, got blonde hair, wear 44, same style of player. Anyway, this is a classy educated man we are talking about, he's not going to say AJ sucks, or he isn't going to be a good QB. What happens if Gus get's hurt, and you have the players already saying AJ is no good, maybe TO would speak the truth on Feeley, but it's like sticking up for your brother when your brother is wrong. I think we know how the players are feeling on the QB situation. Before the Super Bowl, with rumors on Gus coming in, Randy Mac didn't even know his name, now when I talked to him, he said this is going to be the guy. Oh, and they say that Gus has shown them nothing to believe he can't take them to the Super Bowl, yes, that is high praise. The offense has so much more confidence, it's just awesome to see. One last thing, AJ has a 3 million dollar roster bonus due after this year, and you got Ronnie with his 12 million roster bonus, you have Randy, Lance, Boston, Jones, Mcdougle all UFA (Jones has a contract that will be re-worked or released).

The only reason I would disagree with that assessment is I think if he was trying to give Feeley some props even though he didnt mean it, he wouldve just left the quote saying it was tough for Feeley to learn the system and that he thinks Feeley can still be good. The fact that he used the Dilfer/Hasselbeck comparison and then finished it with the same description he used for Hasselback "phenomenal" tells me he really does believe that that comparison is valid. I for one dont consider Hasselback phenomenal but I would be thrilled as hell if he turned out to be that good

Grizzlies, Penguins, Padres - Dude the Dolphin logo should stand alone and apart from that motley crew

Oh, Ithought the last one was the logo for the little Ceaser's dilevery driver!

A lot of over-reaction to Evans statements. Evans clearly sees Frerotte as the leader at this point - no doubt about that and it's not just talk.

But, when he says Feeley will be "phenomenal" - that's likely nothing more than an attempt to boost the confidence of a guy who is losing the battle - but Evans knows that he can't throw Feeley under the truck. In fact, the Dolphins are one simple play (in practice or a game) away from Feeley being the starter. So, Evans can't say anything critical that would undermine Feeley. Saban will say the same thing. He knows QB's are very shaky creatures psychologically speaking. Confidence can sometimes overcome a lack of talent. Feeley has the arm to play in the league, but he needs the decision-making, instincts, and confidence to get the job done. Whether that will ever happen is a huge Q-mark.

There's no reason to believe he wouldn't use that analogy to bolster Feeley's confidence. It's clear he was throwing him a bone.

The fact is, no one, not Evans, Saban or even Feeley knows whether AJ can make it as a bonafide winning starter in the league. Feeley shows he can make some good throws and at times make good decisions. What he hasn't shown is the consistent ability to make the right decisions or show the intangibles that lead to consistently good play. The fact is, QB's with throwing talent are a dime a dozen in the NFL. It's the ones who show genuine confidence, decision-making, and quick instincts on a consistent basis who are successful. Those qualities may or may not be there in AJ - but even if they are, no one knows as yet.

The clear point from the Evans article is that Frerotte is a leader in the huddle and takes charge. That's a good thing.

kinda sounds like aj is being groomed for next season. hmmm.

Well thankfully due to the fact he is due a big contract hit next year, if he doesnt make it this year he will be some where else next year. Maybe they can groom him. :shakeno:

It saddens me to say it... I was pulling for AJ.

But as time goes on he he seems to be fulfilling Wayne Huizenga's prophecy in resembling Dan Marino. More specifically, the likeness of Marino that lives in the Hall of fame. At the cost of a high second round pick, he's looking like womans chestral area.

Gutting indeed.

We draft a qb in the first round next year regardless of pick. We take a qb. Just don't take a qb if he won the heisman. They turn out to be terrible or to not even make a team. I thiknk we will go between 8-8 to 10-6 tis season. We don't have good qbs, but if they can play w/out turnovers we will be good. We are way too talented at defense, rb, te and rb to not compete.

If AJ does not have a good season, than bringing him back for '06 would be a waste of time, IMO. Not taking a QB in the draft if Feeley fails, would be a terrible move.

 I love it!

Heath Evans says something good about AJ and half the board freaks out and calls him a liar.

The comedy around here is extraordinary....:sidelol:

just say if he was cut this year (now) would we save this year??? now everybody dont go crazy on me im just asking not hopeing or praying

Sorry to dissapoint you but it is highly unlikely Feeley will be cut this year. Only save $540,000 this year on cap this year, with 1.8 million dead money added to next years cap.

If Feeley doesn't show enough this year to be considered the definate starter for 2006, he'll be cut for 2.3 million in cap savings in 2006 (4.1 million cap hit - 1.8 million dead money) unless he restructures the 3.5 million salary.

On a side note, two other players that have to produce big time or get cut if they don't restructure in 2006 salaries are SS Jones (3 mill) and T McIntosh (3.3 mill).
