Hickey 1 - Ireland 0

As for the whole thread, I think Hickey is much more willing to spend money out of the gate than Ireland. Now some of that may have had to do with us not really having much cap room until last year.

The bigger question is how he does in the draft for me. Albert obviously is a guy Philbin has wanted for a year (similar to Parcells flirting with Dansby for over a year before signing him), now I want to see how he drafts. Under Ireland/Parcells there wasn't very many risks taken in the draft (last year was a different story with Jordan) but we tried more often than not to go safe rather than swinging for the fences. Didn't matter cause in a lot of cases we struck out doing that as well. Though to Ireland's credit, he found contributors late.
I also can't wait to see how he drafts. I hate that they moved the draft to may too btw. But anyway, I still think hickey is one up on ireland already, especially if we get that that dt mitchell

The one reason hickey is already better is because he listens to the coach about who he wants and what kind of player he wants. Ireland was upset his players didn't see the field. Well maybe if they fit what the coach asked for they would have

I saw somewhere where Albert is the guy Philbin wanted. Something Ireland failed in was working with head coaches! So yeah this is a win!

Once again, as was pointed out in an article the other day once again, KC would not allow us a physical for Albert and they wanted that 2nd rounder without doing so. Plus they didnt want to put their rookie into the fire just yet.

So Ireland did his due diligence and didnt take the risk. You fault him for that? Philbin and Dawn put that crap out there to get rid of Ireland. Its all politics.

reveisionist history....everyone in creation knows that Philbin doesnt play his rookies alot.

I'm not going to get excited about free agent signings until they prove it on the field but I would bet dollars to donuts that Ireland would not have done such a good job on the Grimes contract. I would also wager that Hickey took a totally different approach, rather than start with a low ball and negotiate every dollar tooth and nail I bet Hickey started really close to where the deal is now and blew Grimes away. This is how you create a good locker-room atmosphere.

Roy, whether you want to believe it or not, Ireland was the one who got him here and Grimes likes it here regardless of who the GM is.

Therefore, Hickey did what was basically a no-brainer. Dawn does the contracts. Hickey nor Ireland did the contracts.

Yeah, I hear ya about the injury thing. I have always been against signing ppl coming off injury also. But didn't albert play all games last year?
Nope Albert only played in 12 games in 2013 and 13 games (starting in only 11) in 2012.

I don't understand why anyone here would need to debate in favor of Ireland in any way. I guess 7-9/8-8 seasons is the gold standard for Dolphins fans nowadays. In my opinion today Hickey is better because there is a CHANCE we do better than 7-9/8-8. With Ireland there would be nothing we've seen that supports that chance. Don't talk to me about 2008 either that was a combination of Parcells and even more so the fact that Chad Pennington fell out of the sky 3 weeks before the season started. Ireland produced no winning seasons or playoff berths, its not a stretch to think the new guy could be better even though he hasn't done much yet.

Here is some mo lo hanging fruit.... Hickey got something for Martin

Here is some mo low hanging fruit.....

When all is said and done, Jeff Ireland will be viewed as a better Dolphins GM than Dennis Hickey. Take that to the bank. Buckle up folks! (26/01/2014) LOL

LEts evaluate. Hickey has a super bowl ring and Ireland one his own after 3 years is 8-8. Ireland problem is he could never fix the OL from year one with parcells. I think Hickey does better with that. Think Davin Joseph from the bucs.

You could say Sparano was a better coach than Cameron but does anybody really give two ****s?

Id like to see some of the posts screaming how good of a job Ireland did last offseason. Saying people need to keep things in perspective.

Wow pretty exciting day today! Props to Hickey. Ireland was here for 5 years and couldn't put together **** on the O-Line except for Pouncey. But he couldn't get Albert. Hickeys hasn't even been here 6 months and already landed him. And got delmas to come here. Is it me or does he have the factor needed to bring people in so far? Looking forward to the rest of the offseason and the draft especially! Phins up

Im still apathetic. That wont go away until I start seeing results on the field. Sick of being the perennial paper champions year in and year out.

Too early to call him a genius, but at least he's doing the right things to not go into the draft with glaring weaknesses.

Don't get me wrong - I'm happy we got a top LT. However, in hindsight couldn't we have avoided all this by paying Jake Long a few more dollars?
