Hickey implementing new technology for the draft

Wow! I didn't know my "Moneyball" reference was going to be so controversial. I am not implying this is anything like that. In fact, I'm sure it's just like some have indicated as a modified data processer/smart screen. All the data that's in there has to be fed in by our coaches and scouts (which are going to be personal/professional opinions) about certain capabilities/skills. Something to give the war room the ability to pull up the BPA, the best "position x players" available, upcoming needs for other teams, etc. etc. All these things normally would take a small army to keep track of and get to them in a couple of minutes, so this will do it easier and faster so they can make the best choice available to them, not just what is next on our written checklist of needs. I like it, as it gives them the ability to be flexible and go with the best choice, not the expected choice.

My only point on the "Moneyball" comment was that this could be something that may lead to that down the road (not necessarily for us, but someone). Why? Well despite football in the past being different than baseball, where baseball has stats for anything and everything, and can tie it to individual play. But football was always such a team sport where a guys play was always part of a team or system, so stats could be misleading. However, we all know that they've starting breaking down all types of individual plays/stats now where they never did before for recognition, awards, contract justification, etc. . Heck there are guys that give stats to linemen on what happened with every play on blocking. If the trend continues to statisically track these things, including probabilities of a guy getting in trouble off-the-field (since that's the latest woes of many teams), to fit in schemes, to fit with teammates; somebody eventually will try and market that into the football version of "moneyball".

(If anyone on here ends up doing that based on my idea, please remember me with at least some small royalties.)

You missed the point, we used to remember phone numbers by heart, we were taught to use a dictionary, we were taught to understand maps, we were taught to socialize face to face..Etc. Friends now are created in social media, not real friends. it's created a self entitled, microwave society... instant gratification... I want it now because siri showed me where to get it.. lol

I didn't miss any point, i learned how to do all of those things in elementary school. Why would i waste time using a dictionary or paper map when i can type it into the computer or put directions into a GPS. You blow the whole social media thing way out of proportion, the majority of "friends" on social media are obtained by school, work, or sports and it is a means to keep in touch.

Its like saying why cook on a stove when you use an open fire? Why use the phone when you can communicate using Morse code? Why use a light bulb when you can use a torch? Why watch football games on TV when you can hear whats going on using a radio?

I guess its a bad idea to bring up the fact that the Earth revolves around the sun.

You must have missed after the hire where I clearly said that I didn't like how the hire happened and that I wasn't thrilled with the hire, BUT was going to give him a chance. I will dig that past post up for you if you don't want to look it up. This is me giving Hickey that chance, doesn't mean I am happy with how things were handled in the search or that we didn't come close to hiring the best candidate. As Dolfans we had no choice but to "give him a chance". I prefer to do that than piss and moan and pretend everything that is done is the wrong thing.

So far I have actually been surprised at how well things have gone and the direction things are headed. Doesn't mean my opinion on how the search was conducted changes. No flip flopping, just giving something a chance to prove my original thoughts wrong. So far, not that bad.

Wow Nub, what a curious concept, actually giving someone or new idea a chance to prove to be the right decision, before overreacting...hmmm, would be great if that started catching on around here.

The Earth does not revolve around the Sun. The Earth and the Sun revolve around a common center of gravity called a "barycenter".

It just helps with making decisions but means nothing if the decision maker isn't good. It's an added tool not the only thing they will use. Sounds interesting though.
