The irony is that Ozzie, the bastion of BPA rhetoric, drafted for need. The difference is that Ozzie didn't reach too far for those needs in a deep draft.
He needed DL, and his patience paid off with a falling Jernigan. He needed an ILB too, so when no DL was near his top grade and an ILB was, he took the ILB first. He needed a WR but that was the deepest position in the draft so he let the position come to him. He needed a DB, which was probably the draft's second deepest position so he let that one come to him too.
Ozzie didn't reach. He typically drafts guys who were rated high based on tape at the seasons end, but that fall for other reasons later in the draft process. He did that again with guys like Jernigan. But, just like every other GM in the league, he drafted to his team's needs. To his credit, he did not reach to get there.
