hoops scoops...bucs fins

Hoops, since we want to run lots of inside zone in this scheme, do you think that 4 receiver sets might be the way to go to run the ball? Force the other team to play a nickel or dime package and then attack when they have 5-6 DBs on the field?

Because it seems to me that with most of our offensive talent and depth being at wide receiver now, this could allow us to get our best players on the field and potentially even help our running game.

i'm not sure what the best personnel grouping is to run out of...will have to see how teams play us in different personnel packages...tough to say...i do still think miamis biggest mismatches are found in 3 wide single tight end single back...especially if the pass pro is gonna be solid...that also allows us to spread teams out more and i think open up some things in the run game...if the tackles are gonna be rock solid dependable we don't have to play an in line tight end as much

but i also think 2 tight end sets will especially with late motion provide for some mismatches in space...and won't give away intentions with the run game

I guess you've seen a lot more out of Dion Sims than I have. He still looks to me like a poor man's Anthony Fasano.

I just can't shake the feeling that when we trot him out onto the field, we're putting better players on the bench for a guy who really just doesn't block that well.

i'd wait for us to show our hand come for the first quarter of the season i'd say and then we should have a general idea of what the best personnel groupings are to run out of and how the defense plays us...

but i do think sims is a valuable asset...

Sims has value. I like him. He's got nice hands and deceptive routes. Big body to box out as well. He is underrated by a lot of posters on the site. He isn't Jimmy Graham or even Charles Clay mold. But he will be valuable in the red zone.

Hoops, great write up. As far as I know, Delmas is the QB of the secondary, and Misi in the middle. From what you've seen, how are they comparing to Clemons and Ellerbe (who had problems) in getting players in the right positions? This is a big concern of mine.

I hope you're right. From what I've seen he doesn't have much value as a blocker and I just wasn't impressed by the way he runs pass routes. But in fairness, I saw him in Mike Sherman's offense running what, nothing but square-ins? And my opinion of Mike Sherman really couldn't get any lower.

I've also seen a big improvement in his blocking which will help out James and the run. He was bad last year.

Great write up Hooshoops.. I am usually very realistic about the Dolphins and their chance of success. However, something feels different this year. I have been a big Tannehilll supporter and if the line holds up this kid is going to explode. If he can improve his pocket awareness he will be deadly. Imagine if Tannehill knew when to take off and run like Andrew Luck does. Not to mention the fact that we have an actual OC.

The X factor this year will still be Joe Philibin...Is he a leader? Is he willing to make the tough decisions as coach. I have not seen it out of him and as of right now I don't think he is the answer. However, I hope he can grow and change and he has this year to do it.

GO FINZ!!!

all i know is this team has the best 2 deep quality of talent i have seen from it in quite a while...for as long as i can remember off the top of my head...there's some holes for sure but i don't think i've been as confident in if the depth has to play how we will fare in some positions as i am right now...

they have definitely built a more quality depth roster...

Overall the offense looks pretty similar to last year's in terms of production. Can't run the ball, force Tannehill to beat you with his arm, max score 20 pts per game. Why does it look so similar to last year? Because the running backs so far have been the same as last year. I agree, Lamar Miller has lacked vision since day one. Also, this OL needs to learn to run block. They are doing outstanding pass protecting, but if they can't run block and we become one deminsional like last year, the pass blocking will breakdown. Turn it around by getting a RB with vision, and teaching the OL to create a crease and tie up the DT's arms for the RB.

SERIF: i accidentaly hit the thumbs down on this post. to early in the morning and was actually thumbing down someone elses post but i landed on yours instead. my sincere apologies sir!

NOTE TO ALL: its IMPORTANT that if your going to thumb a guy, use the right thumb. at least thats what my granny used to say.

from the camp and practice reports and up through the 2 pre season games, this is my take also. it used to be [especially in the yearly tampa game] that when the backups came out, we were thoroughly DOOSHED and we looked like the key stone cops [look it up kiddies] out there watching the ball fly into the endzone. not this year!

i dont see the BIG drop off with the second string in so many spots like before.

i guess were seeing now why the reports from the first HICKEY interview said he "knocked it out of the park" and why he had the reputation of a great talent guy, one who could find those later gems like chris mccain [our lavonte david]. hell, he has done a better job in ONE off season churning the bottom of the roster than the last 4 coaches have COMBINED!! the wr's he brought in not only from the draft but off the scrap heep and udfa's are better than the ones those same pre-coaches brought in!! dang, i would be pleased if we had to line up williams, cone, mathews and hazel!! that bunch alone is better than 98% of the past decades wr haul!!

these are the reasons i was so big on the hickey hire. the rumours are AS OF NOW, appearing to be true. a good dude who plays well with others, innovative [or at least tries] and is a pretty dang good talent evaluator.

GOOD FOR US!! and that lazor dude is pretty good too.

I think you mean LB. Hyde went in the 2nd round this year. RB's just don't have the value. What this team needs is a consistent 3 down MLB.

According to CBS Sports, Gurley is ranked 18 out of the top 25, and he will go in the first round. In fact, one mock even has him going the Dolphins: http://walterfootball.com/draft2015.php

So no, I don't mean LB. We need to continue to try to build an offense, especially if we're going to keep Ryan Tannehill, we need pieces around him. We need to continue building the O line, we need another TE, we need a RB. It doesn't have to be in the first round with all those positions, the first 3-4 rounds are good, but wherever the top talent goes at a particular position that's where you have to draft.

This revolving door of coaches in Miami has occurred because we've failed offensively, not because we didn't have a particular LB or DE on the team. And as long as we keep recycling regimes, we'll never win.
