hoops scoops...bucs fins

Let's say this team finishes at 8-8. In light of your comments above- which I agree with, what do you think the thought process of ownership will be going forward? I already know alot of fans will want Philbin gone (coaching staff) and maybe Hickey along with them. If progress is being made with this team and it turns out that we have a good offense coordinator (been a while), I would prefer that ownership stay the course.

I really don't know Albert. I do know a good 50% of our woes in the past 2 decades can be traced to having a revolving door of coaches. So personally, I'd prefer not to make radical changes, even though I'm not sold on Philbin, unless the manner of our play in those 8-8 games was just unsupportable.

But I really don't know how Steve Ross would react. The team has to stop being so fricking boring to watch. If we went down 8-8 but scoring 25-30 points a game and with a smattering of pick sixes and bonecrunching hits - just outpointed by some other high-octane offenses like GB, KC, Den etc. then there might be enough excitement generated by the fanbase to excuse another non-winning season and Ross might give it another year. I somehow doubt it though, which personally I think is a mistake.

But if we make the playoffs, you cant fire the coach. Its one thing if we were year in and year out contenders and you lay an egg in the first game of the playoffs, then maybe you have a case. But in the Fins situation, making the playoffs make the arrow popint up, not down, don't know how the owner could justify firing the HC at that point...

Remember when another Florida team fired its head coach who had turned the franchise around and got the team to the playoffs, in order to trade draft picks to a California team for a young head coach who just happened to be a former quarterback and had led his team to great success in his first years on the job?

No I don't...lol! Im not saying Ross isn't capable of such stupidity, just that I wouldn't be on board with that move... And Im speaking about IF we make the playoffs...

I like Philbin but I'm not sure what he'd have to do for me to turn down an opportunity at Harbaugh. It would be like being offered Tom Brady in his prime, what would Tannehill have to do to say "no thanks" to that offer?

How good does that James pick look now? Nobody will care we reached by the start of the season if he's playing like this

To the Smith played against McCoy remark. That's encouraging if he played against McCoy and was holding his own

If we give the PFF ratings any credence at all, Smith's performance last year against McCoy was very impressive. Smith entered the game on the 4th offensive play after Jake Long got hurt and Rodger Saffold moved over from RG to LT. He played 59 snaps, his overall rating was 3.5 and his run blocking rating was 3.4. It was Smith's best overall rating last year and his 2nd best run blocking rating.
McCoy had only one negative rating game last year and it was the Rams game with a -2.8 and the same rating in his run defense.

Meh...I don't think Harbaugh is a 1st-ballot HoFer. But judging by Ross' statements about the safety of Philbin's job, if we don't make the playoffs and win one, I think he's in danger.

i went back and watched the tampa tape of tannehills work after reading he struggled vs zone coverage in the game cause i didn't recall seeing it...and after watching it again there's not a poor zone coverage read by the qb anywhere on there...if someone knows of one i'm all ears...there's clear out routes and the ball being thrown underneath the coverage for what looks like check downs vs zone but they are all proper decisions case in point the egnew catch on the first drive that's called scheme driven vs zone coverage production run vertical routes to clear out the coverage and have an easy pitch and catch underneath the coverage where they rally to the ball...still a bang on coverage read and decision...and if he had sat on a few of them and waited mccoy would have killed him...he got rid of two balls underneath just before mccoy got to him...the kind of thing people would say had he not gotten the ball out would have been holding the ball too long

not a poor coverage read anywhere...

I'm curious about Jamar Taylor. What's been the recent scoop on him anyway? I haven't heard his name once this preseason. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. I can't tell if the second or third QBs are throwing his way or not, or if he's not making plays. He's been relatively invisible, which isn't all that bad for a DB but personally I do want to hear more from him.
