How do we feel about the Pouncey draft pick, 4 months later?

If thats not the cast what is? Not selecting a QB in the 1st round if you current QB sucks?

Not every NFL draft has a franchise QB. I don't think this past draft did either but there were some upgrades to Henne. Problem is that all the QBs went way before they should have.

You can look back as recent as 2007. Vince Young, Matt Leinart and Jay Cutler...all first round picks and I wouldn't call a single one of them franchise QBs.

As for Pouncey...we'll see soon enough. I'd like to see him play a few games before I feel anything about him. Let's see how he handles Wilfork and Haynesworth, the Chargers and Jets defenses as well. If he can move those big bodies and not get blown up I'll feel better about the pick. I still think it was way too high of a pick to spend on interior O-line.

IMO,it was still the safe choice.Chubbs

Wouldn't it be nice to say we took a shot, we made a move? That would at the very least be respectable. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND EVERYTHING THAT IS HOLY!!!! We've been playing it safe since Jimmy Johnson disaudiabled Dan Marino and was bullhead intended on making us a running franchise. Wouldn't it be nice to get someone in hear who'd say "F#$^ it. How long did the last guy last? Okay. Odds are same for me. Let's go nuts."

I wrote it before and I'll write it again, the state of the aura of our dear franchise needs a 6.0 earthquake of a change of philosophy. Something as crazy but more pro football savvy than the wildcat. I would love nothing more than this offense to come out against NE and go 10 straight plays shotgut, spread, balls to wall. What is it that we have to lose? We need someone to ask that in the war room as well, "What is it that we have to lose?" We've been losing. Someone please take a freagin shot for once.

There's a reason he was drafted the highest of any Center in a million years. Hint: it's not because he's THE best Center prospect in a million years.

I like Pouncey a good deal, but **** my mother, that's just not where you draft that position. They could have traded down, drafted Ingram and then drafted Wisnieski with the ammunition acquired in the trade down. They could have traded down, drafted Camarini and then drafted Wisnieski (a quality RT would look pretty good right now). They could have done all sorts of things.

How do you know they could have traded down? were u in the "war room" with Ireland and Sparano, Ireland already said after the draft that they tried to move down but there were no takers. Its easy for you to just say "they should have" this and should have that

In response to the thread, there was an actual time when I'd sit down and evaluate these guys one by one but seeing as I need 2 beers to prepare myself for the mere pregame, I'm usually too smashed to make any sort of legitament evaluation of a player these days- sad. Off the top of my head, Pouncey looks really fast getting to LBs. I'll say this, I think this oline might have trouble pushing my grandmother around. I exagerate to clarify but when you have a rookie at RB expected to take tough yard snaps, best believe we are in for a world of hurt.

So, we have 2 1st round picks invested on an average, at a strectch, just above average oline (satisfying homers)? I would have rather gambled on a QB.

I just don't understand people here. Why would you draft a "Franchise" Qb when youre on the hot seat! If this is your final year, youre not gonna take a risk pick! Youre going to try and patch up your biggest needs.

Yeah and if we make the pick and he's a bust then everyone will complain we don't know how to draft a QB.

I would rather use the pick on someone that could get on the field and help the team. Next draft however I'm all for trading up...the entire draft if need be...to get Andrew Luck or Matt Barkley.

I said tons of times before the draft, if this Regime made a move and drafted a 1st round QB i would be behind them 100% no matter what.

Love Pouncey where we got hurt was moven up in 2nd round for DT.
There wasnt/isnt a single qb left that we coulda took to make any impact.

If its not worth finding a FRANCHISE QB in the 1st go take a look at the palyoff teams and see how many of them are 1st rounders nough said on that discussion

What do you expect when the head coach is so involved with the OL?

There's a reason he was drafted the highest of any Center in a million years. Hint: it's not because he's THE best Center prospect in a million years.

To paraphrase Abraham Maslow "If all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail..."

Sparano overvalues OL but unfortunately can't seem to get good ones without drafting them in the first round!

i find it funny how everyone refers to the OL as having 3 first round picks, and how that in some way means that we should be focusing our attention eslewhere. Whenever there is mention of adding a guard/tackle/center, this type of response is sure to come up.

i think this is nonsense. Long is a pro bowler, and well worth the #1 overall IMO. Carey came aboard in '04 under Wannestadts regime and has never lived up to his billing. Finally, Pouncey is picked this year, has yet to fully digest the playbook OR participate in a regular season game, and people on this site are already calling for the coach's head due to a complete failure on the offensive line. Now whats fact? Pouncey has been suiting up in a Miami uniform and practicing now for a little over a month ONLY. Long has yet to play in any preseason games due to injury and the Front Office's reluctance to risk further injury. And Vernon Carey has been forced to play musical chairs by a coaching staff that's DESPERATELY trying to find a position for a player from a PAST REGIME. To the credit of management, they did restructure Carey's deal reducing his contract from his slated 16M over the remaining 3 yrs... To what i'm not sure, but its likely to include an opt-out clause in case Carey's sub-par play on field continues.

Yet still, whenever there's mention of adding to the OL, the overwhelming response will be that this coaching staff is clueless, and that it'll be a wasted pick/signing. Hindsight is 20/20, we know this, but are the violins really necessary, or in this case, fitting?

I don't think people are saying this at all. They are saying its ironic that we have 3 first rounders on the line, an O-line guru as a head coach and the O-Line is still the most putrid part of the team

The issue I have with the coaching staff is that they haven't seemed to get OL any way besides using first round picks. With his background he should be able to develop some OL as well, like other teams do.
