Let him play out his deal, if he is a keeper tag him then work out a long term soulition. If not find another qb.
 
We need him to go sharply one way or the other. Greatest danger by far is he improves moderately and now the franchise is stuck, forced to make a decision along the same lines as the Reshad Jones situation, only considerably more expensive and risky with potential for long term stagnation.

Unfortunately, I believe there is huge potential for the later to happen, a moderate degree of improvement, because Tannehill underachieved in 2013, regardless of all the adjustments like offensive line and new receivers. His base level should be higher than 6.7 yards per attempt and there was no good reason to be missing on all the simple deep balls.

If we give a massive contract to a guy who averages let's say 7 yards per attempt in his third season, and has never been great at any level, we are out of our minds and will pay for it. Sure, he might be our quarterback for a decade. The stadium has been our home for more than a quarter century.

If he proves himself then he isn't going anywhere and there is no need for the tag.
 
At this point, with all the new OL and the new system in place, there really isn't a good read on what Tannehill's worth will be.

Next offseason, if Philbin and Lazor are still here, that means Tannehill is getting Kaepernick money. Possibly more.

If they are gone, then we are talking 15M a year as a young developing QB with good tools.

It's a big year for a lot of people. Here is hoping that leads to a big season and a big headache trying to re-sign Tannehill.

Based on the top 10 QB contract, as of now, The option for Tannehill would be a bit over $19M because he was a top 10 pick.
