Take your pick on who you want to sign

http://www.spotrac.com/free-agents/nfl/2013/miami-dolphins/

easy....long, wake, hartline, bush, fields,

if tanne looks like he will pan out, only need one of the 3 qb's, and a cheap 3rd stringer

if miller looks good then bye bye bush

smith is play for pay...i doubt he plays out.

and bye bye, mar moore, baker, barker, clemsons, cook, culver, fasano, garner, guyton, hicks, johnson, mastrud, mcdaniels, naanee, slaton, starks, trusnik, wade, westermen, and the rfa.

some of the "bye byes" will sign fairly cheap to stay on the team, we'll prob draft about 10 players in the 7 mil combined range. come to think of it, a handful of our bye byes prob wont even be on opening day roster.

id rather have long and late '13 draft pick than....murtha, garner, high '13 draft pick prob a difference of about 5 million a year

I like Jake a lot, but there's no way I give him the kind of money Joe Thomas received. No way. If that's what we're looking at, Franchise him; draft a RT in the 2nd or 3rd; kick Martin over to LT.

and please tell me how many superbowls Webb won us? dont worry I'll wait

Yes, because that has always been the basis of judgement for any great Left Tackle. Everyone knows that the REAL responsibility of any great LT isn't really to protect the QBs blind side. It's to win Super Bowls.

Oh, I have your attention now? You're listening? Good. Because here's where your thinking and mine really start to coalesce. I could quite sincerely not care if a potential superstar QB gets killed after one year. It doesn't matter if we pay a hobo off the street $20 bucks per game (plus a per diem, of course)...if our team wins the Super Bowl, HOBO FOR MVP. Why? BECAUSE THE WHOLE SHEBANG DEPENDS ON HIM. Team wins? LT gets the credit. Team doesn't win a Super Bowl? Left Tackle's fault.

In retrospect, I'm surprised that Joe Thomas and Jake Long haven't just been cut by now. You're right. A left tackle isn't just a component of a Super Bowl team...he's the only thing that matters.

I anxiously await your expose next week on how Dwight Stephenson was the real culprit behind the Iran-Contra scandal.

Now...serious post?

LT isn't the only thing, clearly. But let's not blow this out of proportion and say "Left Tackle isn't important at ALL...and here's my proof: We've had a very good LT before, and we didn't win a Super Bowl...ergo, let Jake Long go."

...because that would be almost as silly as my previous post.

Franchising jake Long would be paying him Joe Thomas money.

I'm fine with paying Long that kind of money. We are in good shape with the cap next year and it shouldnt be a problem signing him to a Joe Thomas contract, and giving Wake his contract. I think people underestimate the LT position because it hasnt been a problem for us in almost 5 years.

I can understand if we had Carey or st Clair playing LT. You don't let a sure fire hall of famer walk, if you do what does that tell other players about the way the dolphins take care of our own good players

Don't price yourself out of a job? :idk:

Um, no. You wouldn't be paying 44 guaranteed. You'd pay him big for a year.

The LT position is important, but if you're talking about drafting them top-5 or paying that kind of money, then you're overvaluing it. You need a good LT. You don't need a HOF LT. The GB Packers spent two late 1st RD picks on LT's (2010 and 2011). To me, that's good value. You can find a very good player in that range. Also, the LT has been somewhat devalued, because DC's scheme to put their best pass rushers on weaker blockers. I hope we're able to keep Long. He's a great player. But I'm not paying an OT that kind of money.

Or maybe it just says that we're no longer going to spend two thirds of our salary cap on the ****ing offensive line.

as far as long being broken down, yeah it's disturbing, but who knows, he's played through injury (for good or bad) and he could be healthy going into this season. the dolphins like the rest of us want to see a healthy long for an entire season before recommitting to him.

This sounds like the smartest approach to me. If he plays 16 games in 2012 at an elite level then keep him. Why do we want to make this decision now?

I am convinced we have the stupidest fans in the NFL. I cant for the life of me figure out why anyone would want to get rid of our only elite player when he's 26 years old. We have the cap space. Its not a financial problem. We arent signing big FA's with this regime. But people want to let hime walk, and they act like getting a decent LT to replace him would be easy? Even the decent LT's make 8-10 million a year....you want to let Long walk to save 2 or 3 million a year?. Sounds like a pretty dumb idea to me.

Before Jake Long the fins nation were LT starved, with Guys like Carey, Wade Smith, John StClair playing the position... Now that we have a elit tackle, people don't think about it as being a problem, thus it would be easy to replace it. I may understand fans wanting to get rid of Long if he were the twilight of his Career, but he's in his prime.

it's the classic case of "you don't know what you had till you lose it"...

lol there has been a trend that more and more people think they are cap experts and act like the owner is spending thier money on free agents. its actually quite funny to hear ... bah he can take it or leave it, that's all i'd pay him...

I know that he said he would be here for a while, but would you be willing to spend close to 10% of the team's salary on one guy who plays a position of diminishing importance in this offense?
