Not sure about the vision part, as I, nor anyone else aside from the AZ staff know what the play designs/breakdowns were, but every QB I've ever seen needed to improve on the decision making of their rookie season.Rosen will need to improve his vision and decision-making regardless of talent
That's an oversimplification. The staff is not going to predetermine whether Rosen gets 2 years, or not. It will (should be) predicated on his performance this year. It wouldn't be prudent to take any other approach.
If he blows, you don't march him out there again, out of pride. That how we got to this point.
He has to show enough, in the opinions of the coaches to warrent a second season.
I won't consider it wasted, regardless of the outcome.
What makes anyone think we’d be in line to draft Lawrence in 2021? If we’re picking #1 overall in two years our entire staff is likely fired.
We were in 10-20 pick no man’s land for the past 8 years and somehow Rosen is going to either bring us to the promise land or a #1 pick? That’s not how it works.
Great, reality based post. The quintessential voice of reason, among the radical howling.Let's look at a few quarterbacks who were drafted in the first round by terrible teams and how they fared their rookie year as a starter. Mind you, they were drafted by what was at the time of the draft, a bad team. I didn't include QB's drafted onto average or ascending teams. This puts it into a proper perspective for comparison.
Comp % TD/INT Sacked QB Rtng Age
Josh Rosen 55.2 11/14 45 66.7 21
Payton Manning 56.7 26/28 22 71.2 22
John Elway 47.5 7/14 28 79.9 23
Drew Brees 60.8 17/16 24 76.9 22
Drew Bledsoe 49.9 15/15 16 65 21
Matthew Stafford 53.3 13/20 24 61 21
Troy Aikman 52.9 9/18 19 55.7 23
My point isn't to say JR is going to be as good as any of these players, we obviously don't know that yet. The point is to show how some of the best QB's in the history of the game fared during their rookie seasons with terrible teams and JR shouldn't be judged solely on his rookie season. I'm not promoting a Rosen agenda just stating the facts, frankly, if he works out, great, if not yeah well. If we took the premise of some posters on this board, these guys would be considered busts and we'd be looking for a new QB. Patience is a virtue, I'm taking the wait and see approach.

It's a strange dichotomy, when so many ppl want to hold Rosen to the standards of a multiyear starter, while others want to treat him like a true rookie, and have him sit behind Fitzpatrick.
IMO, this is the year the "light" should come on, and the game slows down for him.
Sorry, the site mashed all the info together, I separated it out for easier viewing.

You are correct, typo. Thanks for clearing that up. :up:That rating for Elway's first year is off. It should be like 54.9 not 79.9
That would be the Ryan Leaf/Peyton Manning pre-draft debate all over again. We know how that turned out.One scenario that's hard to envision but Tua could actually stay for his senior year. Making both Tua and Trevor in 2021 unless Trevor did the same and stayed
Having Alex Smith didn't stop Andy Reid from drafting Kermit. It's not likely to happen but if those guys are there it should totally happen.
Another scenario is neither gets to the NFL as surefire #1 overall picks. Or even 1st round picks. Remember what happened with Barkely. And Barkley had started for three years at that point, unlike either Lawrence or Tua.One scenario that's hard to envision but Tua could actually stay for his senior year.
