Hurricane Irma Only thread

Many thanks for the clarification. What little I know about hurricanes has been provided by you guys. Other than the fact that wreck a lot, knew that already.

For those of you getting smacked around by tornadoes (didn't know hurricanes generated those), don't **** around. If you have a basement, get in it. Now. If not, get in the center of you home, preferably in a room with minimal glass. Having dealt with them every year for 47 years, those ****ers are mean and they just drop with little if any warning.

Jesus guys, I am praying for you all. A hurricane is bad enough, but one that spawns tornadoes is horrible.
Don't feel bad most Floridians know very little about hurricanes. I think that's why they are so scared about them. I wish they would educate the public more why and how houses actually get destroyed. But then again: scaring them would be so much harder.

Or generally any regular ol day of the year. I'm sure there's parts of the state you could get away with one but i wouldn't chance it for anything.
You can have a basement. I saw houses with basement. Even near the ocean. The problem is that a basement cost almost as much (depending on location sometimes even more) than a house.

So, from what I'm hearing eastern Florida might be OK, but the Gulf side looks to be hit pretty hard. News isn't really clear, they're just saying Florida is bracing for a damn hard hit.

Correct, and the Keys. My sister-in-law lives there. Might have a house guest for a while.

Just Googled them. Looks like something out of a movie. Pretty nice. I expect you'd best be well set up to live there. Vacation spot.

Certainly did not see myself playing Madden at midnight tonight. Expecting power to go overnight with the increase in Broward outages.

Damn glad to see everyone still checking in and doing well. West coast is definitely in my prayers tonight. I hope she doesn't have enough time to strengthen back before making landfall.

If Irma stays a 3 or even less (some talk of dropping to a 2 but not sure if legit), then that'd be shocking but a great improvement for those in her path.

GFS has a big time restrengthening over the FL straits.

They exist, 3 houses in my neighborhood have basements including my house. I live out in Clermont Florida, it's a very hilly area. I'm not 100% sure it is considered a full basement however. It's about 70% underground. If things get rough, there's no doubt I'm going to my basement. For a tornado I essentially have 2 roofs, and for Hurricanes I'm protected from the wind 70% of the time.
