My brother's family has been evacuated out of Cape Coral. Anyone along the West Coast should consider doing so at this point.

. . .

Euro and GFS model has an inside track along the West Coast.

We have to stop this everybody has to evacuate thing. That becomes more dangerous than staying in a decent structure.
It used to be that people should evacuate if they live in trailers, in flood zones or otherwise declared unsafe buildings. The first announcement was always to hook up with family members who live in safer structures. The next options was to go to shelters and last resort in Florida was to leave the area.
We have three major roads leading north and for days the TP i.e. is stop and go. We are putting people unnecessary danger.
For days I am watching the panic orgy on TV and I am totally disgusted. From our government (Scott saying all Floridians should evacuate) down to local police and EOC chapters and TV stations.

Any home (even build before the new building codes) can and should withstand a Cat III or Cat IV easily. You can upgrade older homes to make them Cat V. The biggest weakness is always the roof. I upgraded my roof for a lousy $1500 and had straps put into every single truss and beam.
Close your weak spots: windows and doors. Do it through out the year if you are short in money. Do it one weekend per month and by the time hurricane season starts you closed your weak spots.
We now send several thousand people in harms way to the FL West Coast because we started this panic mode "everybody out of the way". Now these people will have nowhere to go and still face the same threat.

We are not helping anybody by sending people around and make them evacuate from one place to another. We are creating injuries and death.

PS: this post is not against you SoS. Just general frustration. The word "evacuation" just triggered that outburst.

For many years I've tried to sell my home in South Jersey for the opportunity to live in Florida. Back in 2004 I was on the verge of moving to the Sunshine State, but meet a woman, who totally blew me away. She became the built in excuse to stay. Big mistake!!! Over the past few years, As I researched the Gulf Coast, I became smitten with the Bonita Springs area, because it had a reputation of being, a quaint and quiet place. Now today that's all about to change; 15 feet of storm surge is about to swallow up everything from Ft. Myers to Naples. One of the most beautiful places I've ever visited in Florida, is about to change for the immediate future.

Nothing happening in Doral. No rain and barely any wind.
