Hurricane Irma Only thread

Damage wise - it can be worse. Andrew spun off Tornadoes that destroyed houses.

Honestly they scare me worse, shutters won't stop a tornado.

****. I thought they would be smaller and less powerful

Well folks, not to be a negative nanny, but Hurricane Jose according to the Euro model is going to travel the eastern seaboard and possibly make landfall in Virginia, just a few hours south of me, which mean a wall of water will be pushed by its northern bands up the Delaware Bay and onto the shores of both Delaware and Southern Jersey, leaving me in its path. What a $&@$&@$? Year this is turning out to be for all of us.
Hope it doesn't happen, but the time to start getting prepared is now. The one thing I'll say is that the Euro model has been the most consistent track of Irma from the get go. The path she's taking right now I believe is their original projection.

Also think about all the issues we had here just finding water, gas, plywood, batteries.....hell, even nails. You can beat the rush.

Prepare for the worst; hope for the best. Be safe.

There are literally no preps for a tornado. That **** will run through shutters/impact windows/plywood in a heartbeat. Our homes are no match.

If you hear/see it coming get into a secure room with lots of walls and stay down.

Scary situation for us all. Be safe everyone.

Every time the news is live there's some dummy riding on a bicycle or skateboarding.

Not sure. I was glued to TV for awhile. Hope he's ok. Is it true that an incoming tornado sounds like a train?

Yes, but you really need to be close to your. 'Safe room" if they are near you - don't mess around. A room with no windows, no attic access near the middle of your house etc.

Thanks!! I'll wait till Friday than head north to central NJ. The shitty thing is, I'll miss watching the Dolphins game next Sunday. I have Directv and haven't missed a game since 2005. I'll have to find a sports bar up north to park my old butt next Sunday.

Will the water that goes out come rushing back? At some point when the pressure equalizes there has to be a state of equilibrium that's eventually achieved, correct?

It comes back, but it doesnt come rushing in all at once like a tsunami.

Alot of it depends on where the eye is in relation to you and how the storm passes. You can get a surge or withdrawal, both or neither.

If the waters withdraw prior to the storm's arrival it will rush in alot faster as the storm passes and you begin to get the surge.
