Miami or Miami Beach?

Miami Beach is going to be underwater... Heck, it floods during king tides now...
 
Good luck guys. I know many of you are hunkered down, trying to stick it out. The next 25 hours or so are when it gets real. I'll be thinking of you all. Be safe!!!
 
I haven't been able to think about football much this week. Thankfully Thursday game was a break from the Irma news for a bit. I am praying for everyone in FL, especially my baby sister. All my fellow Fin fans, love you all.

A part of me wants to be there.....just to help. I have a 7 month old son or I would've driven down to be with my sis.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone.

But you hurricane folks have terms I don't understand. For instance: what is a "wobble"? And what is a "band"?

Us folks in the Midwest (tornado guys) haven't heard of these before. Sorry for the ignorance.

Wobble means the direction of the eye and storm i.e. Wobble some north etc..

Band means one of the clusters of weather passing through- usually quick winds and rain and then settles for a bit - while we await the next band. Lol

Well, I'm glad they are here with us in Jax as Irma is supposed to make landfall b/w Naples and Tampa. Left in the middle of the night when there was no traffic and made it in 5 hours. Still have family in Ft Laud, WPB, and Orlando though.

Doesn't help when you have idiot neighbors who ignore the dangers and leave out patio furniture and yard decorations that serve as projectiles either. Tornadoes also DGAF about Cat 4 or 5 buildings, which was the cause for most of the destruction during Andrew. Storm surges also pose great threats which was also the cause for their evac.

F0 and F1 Tornadoes are manageable. They are more like strong wind gusts. F2 becomes an issue of how well build a house is. An F2 has basically wind speed of a Hurricane Cat III to borderline Cat V. But that type of wind gust you have in a Cat II hurricane.
If you have a F2 Tornado with 150 mph hitting your home chances are better than being hit by Cat IV Hurricane with 135 mph. The constant pounding of a hurricane does that damage.
An F3, F4 and F5 Tornado - forget it. Those literally make your house disintegrate around you.

A hurricane is a wind spiral rotating counter clockwise. The outside bands are called feeder bands. They are fast moving strips of clouds with heavy wind gusts and heavy rain. Those feeder bands are sucked into the hurricane and essentially are part of the fuel for a hurricane. When you have feeder bands you have high wind gusts and heavy rain for a few minutes and then it is nice and dry. Then the next one comes and so on.
The feeder bands on Irma are about 300 miles out from the center.
The closer you get to the center the smaller the gap and the less the "quiet time" between feeder bands will be. Until you get so close that one feeder band becomes part of the next and you have that continuous wind and rain.

A wobble is a temporary and quick change of direction of the eye before it continuous its normal forward movement.
