Hurricane Irma Only thread

National weather service report wind gust of 131 mph in Naples, at the airport. As I watch the news, you see the ocean just engulfing Naples. It's only just begun as the eye is now over Naples.

Yikes

Tampa is pretty surreal right now. One of the beaches the ocean is completely sucked in prior to Irma's arrival and people have walked all the way up to near the water to get pictures. This is an area expected to flood.

Are the news networks trying to see who can kill of a reporter first? The amount of videos of the poor guys nearly getting blown away is insane!

Very familiar with Naples and Fort Myers as I had to go there one a month for a week for work over the course of 2 years. Taken Estero Blvd from San Carlos to Bonita just for the ride and the beach vibe. That place is likely to be flooded senseless.

Still bad here in Oakland Park, but noticeably improved from the noon to 4 thrashing we took.

Rain has calmed a bit, wind still howling but not as bad as the worst.

Maybe there is a light at the end of this tunnel.

Hoping it stays that way. People are outside on a Balcony tells me it's not that bad. Thank god

My front door is wide open with nothing holding it because the wind is moving away on the sides with none coming at me . . . My patio balcony is another story as i cannot stay out there without getting absolutely hammered.

You can easily film and not really be in harms way, but there are people who are directly facing the wind and rain and it probably is impossible to do such filming without getting soaked.

It was everybit as bad as it looks, but it is improving.

Trees surrounding Hard Rock Stadium are down, but throughout the worst of it Sunday, Joe Robbie stood tall.

Throughout Hurricane Irma, Dolphins CEO Tom Garfinkel has been tweeting short videos and still photos taken by surveillance cameras around the team’s Miami Gardens stadium.

And while it’s not possible to glean what, if any, damage the facility suffered from Irma, what is visible in those images is encouraging.

Garfinkel posted a partial view of Hard Rock’s one-year-old canopy from 4:15 p.m., and the roof appeared to be intact.

The Dolphins invested a sizable amount of money in beautifying the exterior of Hard Rock with landscaping. The images from Garfinkel show that many of those trees did not survive the storm.

A full assessment of damage to Hard Rock and the team’s Davie training complex will be done in the coming days, if not hours, but the stadium was designed to withstand Category 4 winds. Irma’s impact in Miami-Dade County was not nearly that strong.

A bigger issue could be power. There were widespread outages lthroughout the area, and if it is not restored in Davie by the time the Dolphins play the Chargers next Sunday, it could impact the team’s plans for the following week.
