Matt Patricia. Simple choice and its safe. Sean Payton ain't coming into this mess. Colts are a better fit for him.

The only thing good about hiring Patricia would be that the Fins would know how the Patriots cheat.

I'm not convinced that BB gives two ****s about developing his staff to be HC's. Whenever an assistant leaves NE for a HC position, they struggle with very basic concepts, and they compound this by attacking their problems with an arrogance that they know best - not unlike BB. The difference, of course, is that BB really has developed an approach that flows against conventional wisdom and grants him consistent success. When looking at the most consistent teams over the last few seasons, Seattle and New England share this trait. They have the two most unique draft boards in the NFL (even with teams trying to copy their success), and their schemes exist largely outside of current trends. If you can pull this off, it's ideal, because you're not competing for the same resources that every other team is competing for, and teams can't piggyback their preparation for other teams onto their match up with you - not to the typical extent, anyway. However, when this approach fails, it crashes and burns. Josh McDaniels' stint in Denver serves as a great example. Looking at the other coaches who have left New England, it's always pretty similar. The team sees a slight uptick in performance initially - maybe the confidence of having a SB winning assistant as your HC accounts for that, maybe the schemes take the league some adjustment - but the teams falls to earth, and it becomes clear that the former assistant didn't pick up enough of BB's important nuances that make his system work. It's possible that BB does prepare his assistants, and when making the system their own, they just lose some of the key points that make BB's system work in New England. The inability to bring Brady along doesn't help either, but I'm addressing poor performance across the board that extends beyond the QB position.

In other words, I don't see Patricia as a safe or desirable option.

So why would Patricia come to this 'mess?' A chance to be a head coach will draw anyone with those aspirations.

Id take Patricia or McDaniels .

Obviously though , Number one candidate would be Payton .

( unless somehow Hardbaugh were to leave the Ravens which ... Isn't happening )

What about a Pats assistant coach become a head coach makes it safe? The track record would tend to point in the opposite direction...extremely risky. Charlie Weiss, Romeo Crennell, Josh McDaniel were all complete failures.

I cringe every time someone mentions McDaniels. That guy will fall on his face without BB. If there was a product of surroundings....that guy is it!

I cannot in any way wrap my brain around ANOTHER asst. ccoach, coordinator. It may be an NFL trend to pluck ccordinators from teams and make them HC's, but it simply does not work for us. We need a coach with gravitas. What does Mike Shanahan have left in the tank?

What makes Patricia a safe bet? NE defense is not some complex system and scheme and it's not all Patricia pulling the strings. I wouldn't take anyone from that staff to be exact. Miami had their chance at a Good Head coach that players respected and played for. They elected Philbin. Should have taken Todd Bowls. Not sure what it was that they didn't like. Secondary has been our Achilles Heal every since he left Miami. Defense on a steady down turn. Down right stupid move. Ross had his Parcels guy right in his face and he walked him out the door.
I can't even dream up a coach for this job right now. It wont be Payton I would bet that one. You can only pray that it's Shula. And he is not my choice just the best of the worse in my opinion.

BB has had his guys come and go every few years, but his team seems to always play well regardless. I'm convinced it's more Belicheck than anyone making that team work the way it does. Patricia may be a budding DC, but I don't necessarily see the signs that he'd be a good HC. If he was good elsewhere, out from BB's blanket, and had HC or asst HC experience before, I'd be more open to him.

Everyone needs to stop throwing names out there. Just leave it to our amazing FO....they'll be sure to puck the wrong guy.
