I don't think Ross will make a change, and that's a problem

I don't think Philbin resigns. I don't see a guy pretty much committing career suicide.

Maybe GB throws him a golden parachute to be Assistant head coach. Family misses Wisconsin...all that type of stuff.
In reality, leaving this team after this year might salvage his career. Ireland cannot build a team or run a franchise. Aponte and Philbin are in opposition to Ireland. The only way he stays is if Ireland leaves and the new GM wants him.

It seems like, in order to hire good football people, you have to BE a good football people.
How many of us hated the Parcells hire initially?
I thought he showed himself to be used up with Dallas, but I think more than not, people liked the Parcells hire. However, IMO, the writing was on the wall when Ross arrived and a new direction should have been taken. But Ross literally genuflected to Parcells, which is why Ireland stayed. Sadly, Ross will hire Ireland's successor. Only dumb luck will bring in a good talent evaluator. Ross will find some other big-name dinosaur who will run the team like it's 1967.

Is there a clear choice out there, or is it just a leap of faith?

He will replace Ireland this year. Philbin stays one more year, and if there is no drastic
improvment, he's gone.

I have been right on almost Ross's moves, because I believe I have insight into his
mindset, and this is what I think.

It is very apparent how Ross thinks. He knows nothing and he depends on his advisers for guidance. Depending on who the people are, one can predict their moves(and his) from their philosophy.
He is like a new member of a golf club desperately trying to become friends with the stuffy old stogers.

I agree Irish is gone. If the new GM has Green Bay ties Philbin finishes his contract; if no ties the Philbin gets one year.

Not gonna happen, IMO.

The first thing EVERYONE, damn near on this board was freaking out about was Parcells leaving.

It's easy to think about it like that, but that's not all there is. He is intensely loyal to "his guys". In my life
I've been associated with these types of men. They are smart, savvy, and know what they are doing in
terms of general business principals. They also value loyalty above all else. I think Ireland is done simply
because he has proven not to be the answer, and there's simply no way around it anymore. The scandal
will be the last straw, IMO.

You can belittle the man if you like, but he's not dumb, and he's not a cartoon character.

So many decisions are strange this last year. Since I don't understand them I wonder if they are really operating on a play to be good next year and "if it works out this year great" type of attitude. If at all true I worry about big changes being made. I mean someone somewhere is sold on the plan or it would not be in place. I'm talking about leaving weaknesses on the Oline that could have had answers, little usage of Dion and his little impact this year, forcing certain play by Tannehill, keeping guys in the game or not rotating people in "in the name of getting the planned number of plays for each guy", splitting running back time, having play makers on the sidelines on important plays, and that kind of stuff. I hope they make strong changes.

The words I've written sound a little weird, but stick with the general thinking.

Ross is a stubborn man. I dont think that he can or just wont admit when he is wrong. What scares me is that by letting Ireland go, he must admit that he was wrong and that the FANS have been right all along. IMO, Ross feels that the fan base is ignorant and beneath him. You can see it in his press conferences, he feeds the fans a bunch of BS and truly believes that they/we are foolish enough to believe him.

Not gonna happen, IMO.

The first thing EVERYONE, damn near on this board was freaking out about was Parcells leaving.

I remember some of the more swarmy members of the board arguing with me that Parcells was not going to quit on us for this reason and that.
I have waited a few years but I called it correctly although a blind man could see it coming. The majority of the board didnt want to hear that and made excuses about him being able to take it easy and golf in his Miami position. Although many of thse same people now swear that he did everything in Miami while guys like Ireland fetched coffee. Most people loved the Trifecta as it was called but in retrospect all the blame goes on Parcells, then sparano and maybe finally Ireland

The last 2 owners have tried every formula for success and none have worked.
I'm not superstitious, but sometimes I feel this team has been cursed since the day Huizenga fired..... um, I mean "coaxed" Shula into retirement. It became jinxed when Wannstadt fired....um, I mean coaxed Marino into retiring and brought in Fiedler ( I still can't fully grasp that decision).
I recognize that Shula and Marino were in decline, but look at what replaced them. It was clear that Jimmy Johnson was not at a stage in his life where he was going to make a long term commitment. His heart was always in the Keys fishing on his boat. NFL coaching is a meat grinder and JJ was done with it.

I don't believe in the jinx thing. Just an excuse for bad hires and poor performances.

Unfortunately we just have to keep cleaning house until the right combination of GM/Coach/QB turns up.

Ireland has been here for 5 years now. His drafts are as bad as Spielman's. I don't think Philbin will survive this season after all the controversy, and lack of playoffs. And I think our co-ordinators have been disappointing. Coaching has been a real disappointment under Philbin. We should be getting more from our draft picks.

I don't like the fact we have to clean house. It may seem unfair to Philbin that he didn't have enough time to implement his vision. But I also think his vision also lead to much of current woes.

Mr. Ross, get out 'cha broom!

And maybe this panel of experts he has hired will put some sense into his head.

This is the WHOLE problem. I'm not disrespecting the panel. The fact Ross NEEDS a panel to get out of mess tells me everything I need to know with Ross. He has a billion dollar organization and he needs someone else to tell him how to run it? There's no one here on this board that would allow someone else to tell them how to run their own house! And you're talking about a billion dollar business? Please.

"Never feel sorry for a man with his own plane." - Charles Morse :)

I propose this team should have a collection of previous players and coaches form a leadership council to serve as a sounding board for the team and it's players, front office, coaches and owners. We need the past involved in our present. We have plenty of untapped resources that could be developed and utilized by this organization to PREVENT and LEAD this team through good times and bad.

But the notion of letting the inmates run the ship into the ground while ignoring these legacy players and coaches then asking them to come in and fix the mess? Nope. Don't disgrace them like that. If you want their help, ask for it from the beginning. Make it mean something.

I'm tired of people with power being allowed to go unchecked while they criticize those below them. Meanwhile they make catastrophic errors in judgement and are allowed to operate in autonomy until something goes so wrong that the league has to step in? Nope, no time for hypocritical isolationist thinking.

Frankly, I would respect the panel more if they all said "no thanks".

It all needs to go. Clean house. Blow it all up. Any decision maker involved in creating this mess needs to go. Carl Peterson needs to find the hole he crawled out of. I've disliked that ego maniac since his days at KC. Anyone that likes to sit back and talk about work instead of getting their image dirty needs to go.

THEN ask for help BUILDING it. THEN form a leadership council. THEN consult with the Dolphin greats. THEN consult with Tony Dungy. And here's a clue, whatever they recommend... DO IT.

I'm done with hearing about councils and "advisory panels" and "seeking guidance" and "not wanting to overreact". You have a billion dollar sports organization, act like it. Show some class. Show some backbone. Show some FORWARD thinking decision making. Guide yourself through this mess. THEN ask someone who knows how to start over and build it. Or sell it and go find another billion dollar toy to play with.

Main reasons why Ireland MUST go. Many believe that a teams draft picks in rounds 1 - 3 should make up the bulk of a teams starting 22. Here are Irelands 1st - 3rd rd picks since he got here. Obviously, Parcells had influence over some of the earlier picks, but, hey, might as well pile more on Ireland while Im at it.

1st Rd - Dion Jordon (not sure what is going on here), Ryan Tannehill (hard to judge this pick yet, but it was a no brainer at the time), Mike Pouncy - (solid starter, but has growing up to do), Jared Odrick - (average starter/rotational guy, progressing), Vontae Davis (gone), Jake Long (gone)

2nd Rd - Jamar Taylor (not getting playing time at one of most needed positions), Jonathan Martin ('nuff said), Koa Misi (avg starter), Pat White (gone-horrible), Sean Smith (gone), Phillip Merling (gone-not on a roster), Chad Henne (gone-only starting for Jacksonville by default)

3rd Rd - Dallas Thomas (inactive-has bust written all over him), Will Davis (see Jamar Taylor), Olivier Vernon (borderline/avg 3 down starter), Michael Egnew (another potential bust), John Jerry (Below avg starter/back up type talent), Patrick Turner (gone-was just bad), Kendall Langford (gone)

So, out of 20 picks in rounds 1 - 3, We have 6 starters. SIX! a couple of which maybe shouldnt be starting, and ZERO pro bowlers. Ireland has to go.

I sincerely hope that the vote of confidence Steve Ross gave to Joe Philbin was simply a temporary one to keep things from falling apart and that he will make a move if the team continues to flounder.
