Across the board Ireland has done a good job. You have to wiegh his misses with his hits. So far he has had hits in the first round where a team really cannot afford to miss. Odrick currently is the only one you can debate if the guy stays injured etc. In the second round Merling, Pat White, third round Patrick Turner, John Jerry are offset with the Deveon Bess, Carpenter, Hartline, Lankford later round picks. Throw in free agency with Wake, Dansby, Strarks and Fasano they offset the early picks of Grove, Wilson and Smiley of which we did get some milage out of those guys.
Anyway I am tired of starting over again wiping out the team to rebuild. I feel like we have a very good core. So if something does happen this year I just hope its just the coach and not Ireland.
Now I did enjoy Jimmy Johnsons drafts much better as he was the king of trading down for more picks before Bill B of the Pats got into the act. Drafting is like gamblling you are just going to loose out some but the more chips you have increase the chances of you winning and or making a good pick. So IMO Ireland could do better by trading down IMO in the draft. This year IMO I would have loved us to have gone Ingram in the late 1st, Rayan Mallet in the 2nd and the best guard/ center availabe in the 3rd with maybe the tight end from Arkansas in the 5th that we gave away to move up in the draft. The fan base would be much more pumped and Henne would have the competition. Of course I am not sure that would be a good thing for Henne and the team as a QB controversy never works out well.
We need to resign Ricky Williams as some insurance for Thomas as well as give the kid a decent tutor. If Thomas goes down we are left with Hillard as our power back. Grisby, Sheets and Bush cannt grind it out.
Also our defense ranking was parially due to that pound and ground attack. If we start trying to move it through the air more that usually hurts the defense as they are on the clock more.
