I love what Ricky said to the South Florida Reporters!!!

If you watched that Alamo Bowl this year you'd know why using the lateral more wouldn't work.
Not necessarily if it is setup as a designed play then it could certainly could work. The Alamo was just pure desperation and they almost scored too. In some our set penalty formations we had a long lateral to a winger which we used to great effect.

How stupid was it that the drop kick alone could've cost them the game? The 2-point try at the end wouldn't have even mattered had they missed the drop kick. They clearly weren't trying to win the game.
And that could be why Ricky got defensive about it. The Patriots treated it like an exhibition game and now the media is doing the same.

By focusing so much on an insigificant part of the game, they are also showing the lack of sigificance of the game itself, and that probably pissed Ricky off.

Ricky is quickly becoming my favorite quote ...

I hate to say it, but him leaving last year is starting to look like the best thing that ever happened to the Dolphins since Dan Marino was drafted in '83.

Because of it, we get Saban and a just-as-talented Ricky who doesn't seem to care if he makes money, starts, whatever. He's just happy to be alive from everything I read. The NFL now is just gravy.

I get tired of some these writers insulting our intelligence.

I think everybody knows that the New England JV was in. We know that the Dolphins still have a ways to go. We know the team needs upgrading and where they need it.

So stop writing about it as if it's breaking news!!!

Sure they'll work, Heck the first time I saw it work was the Famous Miami San Diego playoff game but percentage wise it's not like you're gonna do it three four times a game.

Oh and you gotta love Ricky right here. This guy is the epitome of the mentality that Nick Saban is trying to instill in his team. He could give two ****s about what the other team is doing. He's worried about what's going on inside that locker room. Very introspective guy.

It was cool. But it wasn't that big a deal. And yet as soon as it went thru the uprights, you knew that ESPN and everybody else in the media would wet themselves.

Yeah, since Brady only played barely a quarter, and the Patriots lost, they just had to find a way to make a big deal out of the Patriots.

Man, I hope JAX gives them a beatn'

Muck I think your point is well made Ricky is focused on the fins and his contribution.
I thought the Fins didn't play as well well as they would have if the Pats starters were on the field, you sinkikng to the lowest common denominator kind of thing.
I read somewhere that it was Boomer from ESPN that sugested they do the drop kick.

I'm really sick of the "miraculous drop kick extra point best thing to happen to football ever by hall of famer doug flutie". Was it different? Yes. Nobody has done it in a long time? Yes. Will anyone be talking about this by next Monday? No.

Even the South Florida writers like Carl Kotala and Greg Cote are getting into it. Kotala referred to it as "miraculous"??!!! And Greg Kote kept mentioning how it was a meaningless win for Miami and how great the kick was. Is this guy even on our side??? That's when Ricky Williams said possibly the coolest thing ever. Here is an exerpt:
Ricky Williams, asked about the rare, throwback play, said, "What's the big deal?" Told it hadn't happened in 64 years, he chided reporters: "Are you guys that bored?"

The existentialist running back then called our interest in the drop kick weird.

Being called weird by Ricky Williams is an interesting sensation. It's a little like being called fat by a 640-pound man.

Here is the full article:

Ricky nailed it. The South Florida sports media are such a bunch of numbnuts. Actually most of the sports media is. I know Chris Berman is probably pitching a two hour long show to the bigwigs at ESPN on how he told Flutie to do that.

And Mr. Cote, yes, Ricky Williams is an oddball. But he's a good person and a hell of a football player. You insulting him like that just shows that you all realize how inept you are. Ricky put you all in your place.

And if Mr. Cote, and this goes to all of the other would be South Floridian journalists, if you love Doug Flutie's gimmick plays so much, why don't you go offer to wash his underwear after he retires? Who knows, you might actually be qualified for it.

If you're as pissed as I am about this crap, here is Mr. Cote's e-mail address: gcote@MiamiHerald.com. Let's keep it civil and not be petty like they are.

Will we be discussing this drop-kick crap in another week ? probably not...yet another small blip on the radar...

More importantly are Ricky's remarks...behind that "foggy" mind is an extremely articulate, intelligent and practical person. I get the sense many times that he's just "toying" with all the reporters when he's being interviewed. Man of few (but significant) words !

Showing that attitude to the Dolphin Players may light the touchpaper for next season. Disrespect i'm not sure, maybe. Rickys answers to that drop kick was pure gold. Nice one Rickster.

Certain people want to focus on the fact New England had backups in for most of the game but even while their first stringers were in the game, they were not beating the Dolphins.

P.S. The drop kick was not cool and it was not important. It is a non issue.

I thought it was funny. Im sure if Sage pulled it off and ESPN didnt show it enough, we would have "ESPN hates us!" threads everywhere.

the drop kick was straight disrespect, and i think dolphins should be pissed off

that being said cote's article is hilarious
i laughed out loud twice

cote said of the drop kick
"Which is the NFL equivalent of the Heat allowing Shaquille O'Neal, in a real game, to attempt a free throw by heading the basketball, soccer-style, just for laughs."

i almost pissed myself... although its upsetting as a dolphins fan, he is pretty right.
I'll just take the win and go home, thank you.
