I want Josh Gordon

Why would we consider submitting a potential 3rd on a potentionally great WR, when we already have a lockjam of 6 WRs fighting for 6 spots?? Becasuse, out of those 12, 2 or 3 are NFL quality starters only, period...the lockjam could be 186 WRs long for all I care, its whoever´s getting open that matters, and I´m absolutely FED UP with waiting for guys like Pruitt, Wallace, and Moore to suddenly develop into something resembling an NFL WR...but its not happening year in and year out...

Yep.

We run a pretty complicated system where a WR has to learn what the QB is thinking. A WR coming in late would have to grasp the system and prove that he is one of the top 5 in production before the last cut down day. You couldn't really put a guy like that on the practice squad and we have two others that we drafted late that also maybe headed to the PS. You would have to be VERY convinced that he has his head on straight and will work hard to get up to speed. Personally I think Ireland would be a hard sell. Gordon has a rocky past and there is just too many problems to overcome for us to give more than a 4th round grade. I say we offer a 4th or a 5th and let the chips fall where they may. Personally I think a 4th gets him.

that's true...in this o with this option route deal these guys are gonna have to be intelligent...not rocket scientist by any means but they are gonna have to learn coverage leverage etc...

If you think he has a shot at Elite status, 3rd is worth risk. I have no clue who he is.

i think we are going to seriouslly consider him with the problems we were having at mini camp with all the drops. and the staff esp philbin has been upfront and honest how bad they have been playing.
i would rather give up something later than a 3rd but if the fo believes this guy can be special im all for it.

Plus, some food for thought, previous to this draft, I would say no way. Ireland isn't a boom or bust kinda guy. He doesn't waste big time picks on guys that are that risky.

He certainly did this year. Three times. 1st round, 3rd round, and 4th round. Why not a 4th boom or bust? You almost feel like you've GOT to hit on one of them and maybe get a really special player.

You may want him, but you sure as hell don't use a #2 on a guy that has been out of football for a year and has a bust for dope. You want to spend a #6 on this kid, maybe. He's not worth the risk for more.

I agree the 2nd round is way to high. (no pun intended). But an arrest for marijuana should not hinder anyone, in any profession.

I don't think there's any deinitive conclusions on whether we run a complicated system or a simple system for a WR to grasp. There are kinks in the system that seem tough to learn, particularly the communication with the quarterback pre-snap and the tendency for the plays to be audibled at the line, not to mention the speed. There are definitely some option routes, though Davone Bess and Charles Clay will probably be running most of those, with perhaps Hartline thrown in as well.

But Joe Philbin himself has described this offense as extremely easy to learn and even went so far as to say if you can count to three you can play in this offense. He was speaking in particular I think from a receiver's perspective. He then went out and proved how serious he was about that claim by signing a veteran who had trouble learning NE's highly complicated system of option routes, and had previously been helped along in Cincinnati by his offensive coordinator going out of his way not to put too much on him. You could claim Joe Philbin was just talking out his arse when he said the system was easy for a WR, but he definitely backed that claim up by going out and signing OchoCinco.

So I don't know that I see the argument to be made that this system is so complicated that acquiring a Josh Gordon on the eve of training camp is not realistic, and I don't think Joe Philbin would accept that argument either.

Gordon to the Dolphins?

Within Sunday morning's post rounding up the latest Josh Gordon buzz, we speculated that the Miami Dolphins might be interested, seeing as their group of WRs could use some upgrading. While Gordon may not be able to be a surefire starter as a rookie, he has the talent to help just about any team, and a WR-needy squad like Miami is obviously no exception. Of course, other teams -- like the Browns, Panthers, Colts, Cowboys, Vikings, Eagles, Redskins and Rams, just to name several -- have also been cited as potentially being interested in the 6-foot-3 speedster.

Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post does not pass along any inside info that the Dolphins will necessarily bid on Gordon this week, but does note that the club has an extra 2013 third-round pick from the Brandon Marshall trade, and some believe that's what it's going to take to win the bidding for Gordon.

We checked in with ESPN NFL Draft Insider Mel Kiper, Jr., who gave us his take on why there's so much hype for Gordon:

- Tim Kavanagh

Mel Kiper, Jr.

He compares favorably to some first- and second-rounders

"I think there's a very good possibility he would have rated higher on most boards than A.J. Jenkins, Brian Quick or Stephen Hill. So you can see why people might say the second round isn't out of the question. I think more teams will show caution in the supplemental draft, but remember there are still a number of teams with a big need at wide receiver. It only takes one."

Ran his 40 yard dash in 4.52 seconds, had a 36 inch vertical, 10'1" broad jump, 13 bench reps. Measured 6031 and 224 lbs.

I consider those good numbers. It seems to me every year that Supplemental picks' workout numbers are worse than regular draft prospects workout numbers. I think they don't get the same training for their workouts that regular guys get. Gordon only just got his approval to be in the Supplemental Draft I think a few weeks ago.

Ed Wesley for instance ran a 4.72 in the 40 yard dash at his pro day yesterday, and I think if you look at him on tape you'd have to question that number.

Overall I think that set of numbers is about what I expected for Gordon and they represent good blue jeans numbers, as in the numbers a really good athlete gets just rolling out of bed, putting on his blue jeans and going for a workout.

How big are his hands?

I still want him in the third and we might be able to get him there.

on a different note...you guys see that michael floyd is already in the dog house in zona...supposedly he's been routinely skipping out on workouts with larry fitzgerald...to the point that fitz tweeted yesterday i think it was "dwi" about him...as in "don't want it"...

sounds like floyds work ethic right now is really coming into question...thought i'd divulge that since many here wanted him with our top pick this year...obviously once the games begin this may not add up to a hill of beans but his own teammates are even annoyed right now
