You have to go for it there. Two chances instead of one. Why limit yourself to one chance, and it depends on stopping Tom Brady?
Too many brain dead coaches voluntarily surrender the ball and lower their win expectancy without any clue that it's happening.
Regarding the snap that hit Fields in the head, did anyone ask if that was a fake field goal? I never visit this board until late Sunday night so I missed any discussion of that. It certainly looked like a fake. The wing guys on the left of our formation took off to the left instead of straight ahead blocking. And Sturgis appeared to start to run to his right. He definitely wasn't moving forward like a typical placekick. I don't think he could have reacted and adjusted that quickly, to be running to his right as if chasing the ball when it hit Fields in the head. He wouldn't even have been certain that Fields wouldn't catch it and place it cleanly. To me it looked like a fake and that the plan was for Fields to catch the ball and dart to his left, into the opening created when our blockers cleared out. Sturgis was dashing to the right as a decoy.
Of course, Philbin could deny it, to save it for later or give the opponent something else to prepare for. But it's very difficult for me to believe that wasn't a called fake and that the snapper simply panicked, probably due to the unusual call and wanting to make sure he got it there in a hurry. Watching Sturgis run to his right before the ball hits Fields in the head is indication it was a planned fake.
