If Ireland is Fired, who should replace him

On the business side. Marino's title would be Vice President in charge of football ops which was Parcells' title when he was here.

Marino's title should be Vice President of General Football Stuff and Coolness

here is the debate to Ross - are we a couple offensive linemen away, or is the problem bigger? do I dare open a can of worms and say OL preparation or coaching is the cause? what about the RB situation, was it fiscally right to lose Bush? And what about QB? I will say this, Miami is no position anyway to get a top qb in next year's draft and would have to crap out for Winston

We are definitely more than a few offensive linemen away. We have no depth . . . the NFL is a game where injuries are going to happen and we have nobody reliable behind our starters. That's a direct reflection of the poor drafting that has gone on for far to long down here in Miami.

We are fine at Quarterback. I've been critical of Tannehill since preseason while everybody was on him like he's a top 10 QB already. Now I feel like I'm supporting him more while people are jumping off the bandwagon. I just need him to do a better job of holding on to the football . . . not saying that is easy, but he needs to do better. I've seen a solid improvement in his ball placement but I think the intense and consistent pressure he's under has started to affect his decision making (another area I saw improvement in early on). He has the tools, talks of drafting a QB are so premature right now it isn't funny. I mean Blaine Gabbert is 3 years in and he wishes he could say he's looked as good as Tannehill at any point in his career, even Tannehill at his worst. Tannehill can lead you to great things, but understand he's still learning the position and he's still raw . . . I honestly feel there isn't a guy in the 2014 draft that is going to be a better QB than Ryan Tannehill . . . we just can't ruin this kid with our ****ty GM.

Marino is a nice gesture and all but after a decade of mediocrity we need someone that's been in a front office, done player evaluations, been involved in a draft process, has some idea about player negotiations both for rookies and free agents, can structure the pro personnel department and college scouting department for success and can work with a coach, understand his needs and the needs of the team while working to get the best players to fit the coaches scheme on offense and defense. I don't think that's Marino.

Agreed, and that's why if he was hired he would need to bring in his Matt Russell, ala John Elway. Which is why I asked the question? In the NFL where ego's are huge, who would be willing to take a back seat to Dan in recognition outside the team, but have way more power behind the scenes?

I thought it was widely known that Dan Marino is a douche in person.

I've heard that, but I met him twice and he was extremely nice and personable with me.

Says who, the people who could have interrupted him while he was very busy or spending time with his family, or the thousands of children and families whom he has helped with his autism foundation?

And that's great, but doing charity work doesn't necessarily take away from a person being a jerk outside of the spotlight. I have met at least 25 people down here who have interacted with Dan and literally not one of them had anything positive to say about him (we are talking over the course of 20 years).

I've personally never met the guy, but when you hear the same thing from that many people you have to sort of assume a good amount of it is true. Or they could be haters, who knows. Hell of a QB and great work with autistic kids, I just think the title NCFINFAN was giving him may have been a little bit out of place with the things I have heard about him.

How about Vice President of General Football Stuff and Hall of Fame Studliness?

Scot McCoughlan- the former general manager for the 49’ers. He was let go by the 49’ers for “personal reasons” but has been in the running for other general manager jobs since. He is currently working in Seattle’s front office.

Russ Ball- the current Vice President of Football Administrations for the Green Bay Packers. Russ Ball is also in charge of Player Finance. In his current role he is responsible for negotiating player contracts and managing the salary cap.

Im hot and cold on both of those guys, especially Ball as he seems more finance then scouting, but they deserve to have their names thrown out there. Ball would probably keep Philbin, although thats apparently turned into a negative on here.

Id love Eric DeCostra, but several teams have tried to hire him away from the Ravens and been unsuccessful. I think a years ago the Ravens gave him a massive raise and told him he would be replacing Ozzie whenever he decided to retire. Hes seemed content since then but one must wonder if hes getting restless as Ozzie doesnt seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

I've heard that, but I met him twice and he was extremely nice and personable with me.

I remember him sitting a few rows in front of me for an NHL exhibition game (before we got the Panthers) and he had a line of people asking for autographs the entire time. He smiled and singed for each and every person in that line. I heard rumors he was a douche but from what I saw that night they must of been started by someone with an anti Dolphin agenda.

Sorry, but Marino doesn't strike me as a cerebral guy like Elway. He also doesn't seem to have the temperament to manage people. He is way too firy and temperamental to manage an organization. It works as a leader on the football field, but not in the office.

Just google the clip of him almost breaking a glass table on HBO because he flubbed a line. Now imagine how he would react during the draft, or during a losing streak. It wouldn't be a healthy work environment.

I love that reaction. That is me on game days! Need more of that **** around here.
