If Philbin gets fired, who would you like to see as head coach?

I was reading somewhere that Art Briles?, the guy at Baylor would make a good head coach in the NFL.

I did one of these a few weeks ago about Ireland and as I said in that thread....this isn't whether or not he should be fired, just who you would like to see replace him.

Potential candidates.

Kevin Sumlin- Head Coach - Texas A&M
DavidSahw - Head Coach - Standford
Lovie Smith - Former Head Coach of Chicago Bears
Brian Billick - Former Head Coach of the Raven
John Gruden - Former Head Coach of Bucs and Raiders
Jay Gruden - Offensive Coordinator Bengals
Ken Whisenhunt - Offensive Coordinator Charger
Josh McDanials - Offensive Coordinator Patriots

1.Interesting Name, but I doubt he leaves college yet or if he'd want to.
2.I'd love to get Shaw if he were interested.
3.Nah, I think he got a raw deal at the end of his time with Chicago but I don't think he's the right fit here.
4.Hell No
5.Sure if he's interested.
6.Jay would be on my shortlist
7.Not this offseason. Too much of a stench from how he handled the Arizona QB situation, but if we don't make a change I'd keep an eye on how he does.
8. I think he'll make a better HC than he was in Denver (given way too much power too early) but I think he's been promised the Pats job when Billicheck retires

Other names I'd consider

Ray Horton-Browns DC
Tim Walton-Rams DC
Mel Tucker-Bears DC
Sean McDermott-Panthers OC
Pep Hamilton-Colts OC
Darrell Bevell-Seahawks OC
Doug Pederson-Chiefs OC
Adam Gase-Broncos OC

Let me also say that this is all hypothetical and I still am willing to see if Joe Philbin can turn things around this season. I will also say that if we make a change that if we have another situation like Jeff Fisher last year, where he took a lot of time out of the potential search, either make an offer that the person can't refuse or move on.

Now Ireland replacements...

Bob Hordenberg!!! This is who everyone should be rallying for, 27 years in football, not ONE losing season. Players have nothing but love and say he is looked at as a father figure, and you want charisma and personality? Well Bob certainly has that, and a winning style of football....the best kind.

Just 2 weeks ago we were 3-2 and happy. SMH

I can stomach all of these losses, as bad as they are, except for that Bills loss.

That was a huge red flag for me. Just an awful performance against a bad football team missing key starters.

I don't think anyone was too happy about the Raven's loss....

The way I see it....this team could be 6-1 with better coaching...

Miami normally loses one or two to Buffalo or the Jets. What I hated was losing to NE after they dominated the first half!

Yeah, off a bye week against a practice squad quarterback.

And how...in the 3 wins there were warning signs of impending trouble ahead....but the Dolphins made plays when it counted. Then, those plays against the Bills and Ravens didn't happen....and the offense blew it in crunch time We had the Patsies on the ropes and didn't finish the deal. So close and yet so far.

There's a lot of talk about coaches. What we need is a new GM. All these years we've had sub par talent. Step 1 is hiring a competent GM who will hire a good coach who will in turn hire a good coaching staff. I sure hope someone is getting Ross' ear and giving him good recommendations for a good GM.

This and the second half against the Patsies. To me those were inexcusable and a total and complete coaching failure. I have liked Philbin and I understand he's 1.5 season's into being a head coach .... but he's got many years of football experience and this should not happen.

I fully agree....Ross screwed the pooch when he failed to get rid of Ireland 2 years ago...

I have no idea who this is, and my Google efforts yielded no results.

David Shaw would be the guy, but I doubt he'd want to come to Miami unless he really liked the new GM.

I'm not sold on Sumlin as a HC. That A&M D is about as bad as any SEC D that I can remember, and - in my opinion - he's succeeded to the extent he has largely because of one football player. If I were him, I'd take the first big deal that comes my way, because I don't see him sustaining anything close to the level of success he's enjoyed with Manziel at QB.
