If Tim Couch is so good then why..........

Couch is horrible, he has a weak a@@ arm and crumbles under pressure!

Not only is his arm weak but he is a clone of Feeley in the sense he locks onto his primary receivers. His mental toughness is sub par as well. I recall a Sunday night game where he was booed and then started crying!

He is available because he has been rehabbing from shoulder surgery and was not on the market (technically he was, but he and his agent took him off the market to get the shoulder back to normal).

There are various reasons why he is available as well...

1) Poor handling by the Browns coaching staff. He was played when he shouldn't have and then Butch brought in competition with Knitna. He fell out of favor with the FO, due to his injury situation and his inability to unequivocally take the QB spot on the Browns.
2) There was friction between Butch and the FO thruout his tenure there as to whether Couch was their future or not...I don't think the FO was sold on him and Butch wanted him to be the guy.
3) Multiple injuries. He had this shoulder issue prior to being signed by the Packers and never seem to recover from it until he had the surgery. The Packers, being a little tenuous from Favre's on-again, off-again retirement, decided to dump Couch and go with something more secure in the draft.
4) He had the surgery late last year. He will probably not be recovered from completely until late this year, assuming he does not overuse the arm before then.
5) His doctors and rehab speciallist now feel he is ready for the next step.

BTW, that rehab is being done here in So. Fla., which from a media standpoint automatically points to the Fins...

The Fins QB situation is tenuous, at best. For anyone who thinks that Gus, AJ, Sage or Berlin will take us to the promised land is sadly mistaken. Now, IMHO, AJ offers the most upside, but that is my opinion...I have seen Gus in action and feel he will quickly turn into a liability for us, unless everything goes just right (meaning all the ?? we have on the team respond to the program..the OL comes of age, RW and RB coexist and complement each other in the backfield, the secondary comes together, we stay reasonably injury free, Boston can contribute, etc...)

Sage and Berlin are ok players, but obviously not at the point that they need to be. Sage has had 3 years to secure a spot and hasn't done it. Berlin's tenure at UM was mediocre (compared to the rest of the talent on the team for the 2 years he was there) at best. He hasn't really done anything to make the coaches feel he would compete for a starting role as of yet here.

So, add to the fact that we desperately need a better QB and the guys on the roster aren't getting the job done, Couch being back on the FA circuit...it's a pretty obvious connection that he gets associated with us. Would Saban be interested ?? I don't really know, but I would venture to say that he would be at the very least, on par with the guys we have. He might have more upside, provided the injury is healed sufficiently, to challenge Gus or AJ late this year. IF he were signed, it would certainly send Sage packing. Cutting Gus or AJ, from a cap angle don't really make sense at this point. Neither has trade value and if Saban and Linehan are more comfortable with Gus, they would still want someone to back him up in case of injury...

I don't know if Couch offers more than what we have, but he certainly makes the position better provided his shoulder is sufficiently healed...

Yeah, but that means nothing... how many QB's were drafted ahead of Marino??

Couch has never shown much of anything... he might be better worth taking a flyer on NEXT year... but this late in the game, I don't know if I would do it... especially if Rosenfels is showing progress and is close to being able to compete at the #2 spot.

You guys just aren't getting it.

If they bring Couch in they ARE taking a flyer on him for next year. He'll man the 3rd string position and learn the system so he'd be ready to compete next year when camp rolls around.

You have nothing to lose bringing in a player as your 3rd stringer that at one time showed enough promise to go number 1 in the NFL draft.

If he dosen't make any waves... who cares neither will Rosenfels. Or for those of you who get sold on the play of Rosenfels against future arena league players, they could keep Sage and get rid of Feeley(don't see this happening).

On the other hand, if they can somehow resurrect Couch's career and make him realize his potential then it would be a steal.

Again, nothing to lose.

if we are picking him up.. then sage or berlin will probably be cut...

i dont mind taking a look at him and let him compete next year.. give him a year to learn our system... i be down for that..

i think you are mixed up here. the only time i saw couch cry on the field was when he got injured and the fans CHEERED. that is f***** up.

what i can't understand is why some people say couch sucks and won't listen to the so called excuses, but are willing to keep sage around. sage has no excuses and still hasn't shown enough to win the starting job. he has been with this team long enough to be discovered. couch on the other hand has had injuries, several coaching changes, and a horrible team with no line and no WRs. so, if any of those 'excuses are legit reasons, then he already deserves more than sage.

as far as locking onto his primary WR, that is just wrong. in his junior (last) season at UK craig yeast (typically the primary WR) had 87 catches, the RB anthony white had 85, the FB derek homer had 48, and 6 more players had 20 or more. those numbers don't look like locked onto anyone in college when he actually had time to throw the ball. not that UK was known for it's top notch OLs either.

Gus is not your future. Should the fins get Couch, I still think Saban will still look to go either via the draft or FA for your future qb. Lienart , Omar Jacobs or FA to be groomed as your future fins qb while Couch, future back up. He's still young and could be a decent back up with the right coaching.

I would love to see Omar Jacobs back in South Florida.

Couch isn't any good. But because he's a former #1 pick, he gets more attention than he deserves, from everyone concerned.

WOW, that sounds EXACTLY like what they were saying about Steve Young after his first few years. HMMmmmm

When ya take a look at AJ's cap number for next year, and what SAge and Brock make I would have to say that if we sign Couch then AJ is the one out the door.

Lets Hope so

Tim Couch is the biggest bust in NFL history. He's never had a good year and was a complete piece of garbage for cleveland

Another one is QB Heath Shuler.... remember him from the 'Skins ? Funnily enough it was Gus Frerrote that beat him out for the starting job there....

WHo ever said he was SOOOO good. He might not be great but he is probaly better then Berlin and Sage. Which means he should get a shot. Plus he has been injured during his last couple of try outs and stuff

i have to disagree....Ryan Leaf by far is a bigger bust than Couch

if couch is so bad then why is saban even looking at him o wait i guess you are saying saban is bad huh???? let me put my 2cents in here if the saban watched some tape of couch he must have seen something he liked and another thing whern couch played with the browns there team was worse than ours was last year and go check his qb rating the lowest he has had was 73.1 :shakeno: not to shabby and i think that if saban sees something than we should give him a shot
