If we can't draft, we can't win....

As in he wrote the trade, got Denver to agree to it, went through the entire process only to run it by our owner who correctly stated "AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?" and refused to pay Orton money.....3 first round quarterbacks in the draft were available and thats not including Andy Dalton, but Ireland said "its Henne time! All he is missing is more meatheaded cornfed lineman to block for him and we'll be superbowl contenders!!!!!!1!!!"....Oh, i forgot, the draft is only about plugging in starters! Value doesnt matter! Why dont teams draft kickers in the first round? Seems like such a good policy because you can be sure they will start. I mean, Oakland did it, and everyone knows to follow their example....And Marshall was really great at getting stabbed and punching women. You know where he was great at that stuff? Denver. Thank god we rewarded them with multiple draft picks for the privelege of adding to Marshalls rap sheet. Now thats just darn good team building!.....And the purpose of our owner bringing in Fisher was to not sign him. Whew! Im sure our owner was thankful for that, all the while using Irelands sleeve to wipe away his tears at missing Sparano....And my bad! Its Sparanos fault for Colombo! Of course! Ireland brought him in and paid him 2 million dollars to do nothing but sit on the bench and look fantastic! Thats what good general managers do, pay players multiple millions of dollars with the intention of that player never touching the field. Sparano just ruined that flawless teambuilding plan by actually starting the player, damn him!.....And i believe Ireland, while flying around on their private plane, could have pointed out to Ross that the Miami Dolphins already had a head coach and it is usually considered a sound business policy in the national football league to fire your head coach before signing another one. But oh well, Ireland had nothing to do with that other then flying in the plane and actively working with Ross to replace Sparano, he wasnt involved in the least and can truthfully state that he wasnt there(at least mentally).....And Manning didnt give us an interview, at least not until Dan Marino assured him that the big bad Ireland wouldnt attempt to call his mom a prostitute. Even then Manning would only meet with Philbin. Dan Marino is still proving to be a useful Miami Dolphin then Ireland and he has been retired for over a decade........and how long does a holdout need to go on before its a "real" holdout? I must have missed the point that the holdout was really really... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... reallyreally... really meant to help Tannehill.
I guess i missed the part where orton was a worse quarterback than henne. and I guess we should've drafted gabbert, because a lot of people said he was the true number 2 QB last year. Never mind the fact that we did have our eyes set on dalton, but if we'd drafted him with our first pick people like you would be bashing ireland for reaching. As to the drafting of lineman, has our line been coached by the great sparano the last few seasons? yes? well I guess if you have a coach who can't coach, you better draft linemen in the first who's talent is great enough to overcome a ****ty coach. Oh nevermind, we should've kept sparano and fired ireland last offseason. Hmmm wait did you just say you think ireland should've told ross what to do with his plane and his team? so ireland is the boss of ross just like he was the boss of parcels in your fictional world. I'd love to see this contract you've got in your safe that proves that! Oh and more speculation, I guess you were allowed to listen in on the marino call to manning. super. what's the winning lotto numbers this week?

I feel every general manager in the league drafts quarterbacks to extend their own career. If you dont have a quarterback your team is losing. If your team loses you are out of a job. So yeah, he purely drafted a quarterback to extend his career. That should really be a no brainer. Then again, with our team, we extend coaches who have multiple losing seasons and resign Gm's who cant hit on second round picks, so i can see where the confusion came from.

Whoa whoa whoa, a head coach is responsible for the team record? He should actually be accountable?

And here i thought we should only blame the bosses like Parcells. Mind blowing that people should be responsible when they fail to do their job. What a concept.
Ireland brought in columbo, didn't mean sparano had to start him. for that matter, you bring in players with potential if your coach can't help them develope that potential I guess we should blame the gms, wait, ross, I mean Ireland. You know **** it. I don't even have a clue as to who you think should be responsible for what actions. You jump around too much and apparently you get to listen to phone calls the rest of us aren't privy to. say hi to marino for me.

I heard an interview with Ben Volin on WQAM last week, he defended Ireland, saying BP was the man pulling the strings. Although he added; "It's hard to figure out, due to the secrecy around the organization under BP". He also said, Parcell's divorce cost him a lot of money, and that helped in his decision to come back to the NFL. I took that statement, as BP cynically using Wayne H. for the money. I could be wrong, but, why bring a divorce up and the need for money on public radio. I never thought of BP in the bad light before he joined Miami, as I now do. He was too pompous, mysterious and to big headed for his own good. IF both Smith and Davis don't turn it around in 2012, this is going to be a MUCH BIGGER rebuild than we all could have ever imagined. As it stands now going into 2013 the team looks to need another DE to rush the passer, more WCO WR's, smaller faster LB's that can cover and quite possibly 2 new CB's. As for the safety position, that will depend on what Jones, Wilson, Culver and Co. do during the season, I'm not convinced they will fail Jones and Wilson look to be players. On the offensive side of the ball, beside WR's perhaps another OG or 2, TE, RB and hopefully QB look to be set.

So what you're saying is, You choose to blame ireland because that's what you want to do, and that you don't need any other proof other than he's been with the team since 2008? That you indeed have no idea and no proof either absolving him of responsibility or proving he was indeed the man at the top of the totem pole? So you truely think Parcells was nothing more than a figurehead persona on a team, ignoring the fact that the only thing larger than Tuna's enormous ego is perhaps the size of the universe? You honestly expect us to believe Tuna would be second fiddle to ireland? Good one spesh!

And now your slipping backwards man! You had it a mere 1 post previously!

Anyway you spin it, Ireland didnt do his job. He should be held accountable. It doesnt matter if he has a boss or not, everyone except for Ross has a boss on this team. His job is to fill this team with talent. He either failed to talk the big Tuna out of making multiple mistakes(mistakes Ireland continues to repeat even after the all encompassing blame blanket that is Bill Parcells is gone) or he failed to successfully draft those players while Tuna was watching him. One way or another, he failed. Our multiple losing seasons prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt. You can keep blaming ego or id's or whatever other idea that you can come up with as to why this is everyone elses fault except our general manager, but its blantantly obvious to many of us on here that there is no one around to absolve him of every single setback weve suffered over the years.

And all of this is besides the your own discussion point. Even if we say Ireland had no job whatsoever and deserves no blame because nothing ever hit his desk the first 3 years he was on this team: Ireland still has spent as much as the Tuna did on offensive lineman. Im not sure you can bemoan Tuna for burning a first, third, and fourth on offensive lineman while praising Ireland for spending first and second round picks on virtually the same picks.
Hilariously, the worst thing you can say about the job Ireland has done over the past 2 years is that he is doing the exact same thing Parcells did. How you blame one but not the other amuses me endlessly.

So 2 players suck, but its perfectly acceptable because one player sucks more then the other. Lets heap lavish rewards on the one that sucks less.

Or we can bring in good players. Mind blowing.

Preseson games are vanilla. Defense will be better then last year. Defense needs the second pass rusher and we will have it in vernon. Offense needs a RG and playmaking WR and starting QB that makes big plays when needed. Team in the last 2 years is moving in the right direction. Tannehill will start sometime this year and that will start a great new era of phins football.

lots of speculation about what jeff is and isn't responsible for. I guess I'll believe parcels was top dog until one of you ireland bashers shows me the actual contract proving he was parcels boss. Until you do, I think its just as reasonable to assume that ireland has only had full control of the personel since parcels left.

He's part of the mess no matter how you want to slice it, and I'll be looking forward to replacing him with a real GM, hopefully sooner than later.

No question. I still have no idea why Ross kept him. There are a ton of more qualified people available. This place needed totally cleaned up off any and all the **** Parcells left. Simple as that. That whole era was nothing but a **** storm.

Ireland's made his mistakes, but I'll tell you one thing...if Tannehill ends up succeeding a lot of people are going to be singing his praises! Remember, we've got a new head coach and staff in town. A new team philosophy comes along with that. Hopefully it's a winning philosophy sooner rather than later.

You don't deserve praise for common sense. I wasn't even a huge fan of Tannehill as a prospect and realize it was the right choice. It took about 5 years for Ireland to display some common sense, better late than never I suppose. If Tannehill pans out, the coaches that developed him deserve all the praises.

If the Dolphins continue to play the way they did in the first preseason game than I can see your point. But, it's just way to early to give up on people. I know everyone is down on Vontae Davis, but he played great football the last half of 2011. I think his game will come together and, hopefully, the coaching staff sent him a message to work harder. I am concerned with the secondary and I do think Miami will likely have to revamp here. This year will definitely provide us with a lot of answers as to how much talent is on the team, what players step forward, which ones don't develop. It's a big year for a lot of young guys to step up.

It was still his decision to draft him no matter how you slice it. We could've gone a number of different routes at finding a QB for the future aside from drafting Tannehill. In the end, if Tannehill works out of course you are going to give the coaches credit for developing him properly, but Ireland ultimately made the decision to draft him.

Man, i wasnt going to post on this thread again, but the timing is just to good.

So....Jeff Ireland trades away our pro-bowl receiver because he beats his wife. Whats the next course of action? Sign a older, less productive receiver who beats his wife.

Miami Dolphins football, catch the fever! And by fever i mean arrest warrent.

Brandon Weeden would of been the only other possible route. Again, this was a common sense move, just like it was a common sense move in 2008. Ireland being an idiot of course, takes him 5 years to gain some common sense.

Ireland is the guy that went bragging to the media after he picked Koa Misi about how he "terrorized" Alabama in the '09 Sugar Bowl and had 3 sacks. Only to find out that Koa Misi didn't have any sacks against Alabama. Stevenson Sylvester was the linebacker who had 3 sacks in that game. He's an idiot. The proof has been there throughout, and continues to pile proof on top of proof.

Whether you blame Parcells or Ireland or both, this regime (and frankly, the 3-4 before them)has not been able to draft enough solid starting players, let alone elite talent. Of the positions you say we need,
DE: already drafted Langford, Merling, Odrick
WR : Hartline, Turner
LB: AJ Edds, Koa Misi
CB: Vontae, Sean Smith
OG : John Jerry
And these are just the relatively high draft picks they've used, I'm not even counting the late round picks

TE, RB, and QB have all been drafted by them, but so far none of their picks are starters

This is my entire point - they've had ample opportunities to address all these positions and have not been able to identify talent with their picks at a level that can keep up with the league, let alone make any headway. Ochocinco (and Marshall before him) is a perfect example of what happens when you have to try to get your talent through free agency/trade. Great players aren't let go or traded. At some point you have to draft your own superstar talent.

Tannehill aside, what player drafted by this team even approaches elite? Whose jersey should my son be wearing from the last 5 years worth of drafts? The left tackle's?!
